I heard 3 or 4 songs by Metallica the other day on MTV and as I don't yet own any of their albums was wondering if anyone can recommend one or two of their best for me to get. I do like the slightly more commercail stuff of theirs but any recommendations of the best one, two, or three albums to get would be appreciated. Cheers, Andy.

My favourites, in order

Kill 'em All
Metallica
And Justice for All
Master of Puppets.
Ride the Lightning

Anything since Load has been sub standard for them, IMO.

Master of Puppets is best followed by Ride The Lightning imo. Then get the Black Album.

In fact their first 5 are all essential.

If you like the commercial 'Tallica get Load and Reload and you wont be disappointed. You should probably start from their first album and work up though so you get the full arch of their music... or maybe not everyone is as clinical as I am about the order in which they buy their music... :moo:

Cheers everyone - I'll probably get The Black Album, Master Of Puppets, and Justice For All, initially. Thanks.

If you're new to them go for the Black Album. The earlier ones need some time to get into, esp. if you're not a metalhead. Good luck, you won't be disappointed.

This. Master is by far my favourite. Then Ride followed by Metallica (aka the black album). The last one, Death Magnetic, is good as well.

Master Of Puppets, then Kill 'Em All & then Ride The Lightning, the Cliff Burton years were the best, And Justice For All is over engineered and is too clean, although there are excellent tracks.
The Black Album was there last decent album for the hardcore Metalhead.

Is a song by the Anti Nowhere League from 1981, covered by Metallica as the ANL were one of their influences at the time.

Worthing
Definitely start of with the black album then Master Of Puppets finishing with And Justice.

AVOID St. Anger and Death Magnetic as the former is dreadful and the latter is mastered really badly.

I loved St. Anger, took a while to grow on me but its so raw and ggggrrr and you can hear the reverb from the bass in the snare drum. Proper "made-in-a-garage" music, appealed to me for some reason. Death magnetic is pants though, felt like telling Mr Hetfield to SHUT THE HELL UP FOR A BIT AND LET THE PEOPLE WITH TALENT PLAY SOME MUSIC. Wordy git.
