Gullet - we must have a lot in common.

We both appreciate Big Country.

Specials - was that the gig when it kept "kicking off" and being halted.

Prince - First ever gig in the UK ?

Yes there was trouble at that Specials concert. Dont know if it was the same one you are thinking of though. The Bodysnatchers were the support band.

Not sure if it was Princes first gig. It was the one where he sang "Nothing Compares To You" at the piano, after Sinead O'Connor had had her No1 with it. It sent the crowd crazy and stole the show.

Have you also noticed that The Darkness's latest single is a rip off of "One Great Thing" by Big Country?

Far too many to be specific but Clash at the Lyceum 78 remains the most exhilerating and u2/bunnymen the best value (50p, first drink free Mud Club 1979/80).

Too many to mention but heres a selection

RHCP Astoria 1990
Faith No More Marquee 1989 (1st patton gig) and any subsequent FNM gig
Any AC/DC gig ever
Damage Inc (Metallica) 100 Club pre donington 1995 (?)
Metallica Lyceum Ballroom 1984
Slayer hammersmith odeon 1987

Getting a bit more up-to-date I can throughly recommend brighton's very own The LoveGods their two Komedia shows recently were brilliant.

Ground Zero - The Tolbooth, Stirling in, I think, 1995 or 1996. I've never seen an audience blown away like that. The reviewer from the Herald - a music writer of 20 years' experience - also rated it as the greatest gig he had ever been to.

Sadly - they are no more (in fact, that was their last-but-one European gig).

The only time I have been at a gig and had the same physical and emotional reaction to the music has been each and every time I have seen Keijo Haino.

Any others on here go to the christmas gig at the pavillion last saturday night? (early for xmas i know but band now out in Oz for 6 weeks) Absolutly fantastic

When I come down to brighton I'm constantly gobsmacked at the diversity & standard of your music scene.

BTW i constantly see a misspelling of The lovegods.......it's little l capital G.

Far too many to do this properly. Most I go to are outstanding. But a few come to mind for various reasons.

I saw the Jam 16 times, including 3 in 3 nights at the Rainbow (one of which was on my birthday  ) but I particularly remember one in Guildford on their last tour (as close to a home town gig as they got I suspect) and of course the last one at the Brighton Centre.

Cowboy Junkies last year was something special as it was just a pub and I sat on a bar stool a few feet in front of Margo as she basically sang looking at me and a few others for a couple of hours. There was love in the air. She said it was a cold but I knew better.

George Thorogood has to be one of the best live performers out there, and I second the mention of Jackson Browne. Barenaked Ladies at the Charlotte in Leicester (with Big Steve I seem to recall, who probably shed a few pounds that night), Trent Poly Students Union, and Irish Centre in Leeds were also excellent gigs.

And then there were the Residents. Indescribable.

Not forgetting the time I joined the Smirks on stage for the encore. Now there was a great live band - until I joined in.

South Wales (im not welsh !!)
Back in the early 70s i went to see many bands at places like "Big Apple" and the Top Rank Suite, but the one gig that stands out in my mind the most, was in or around 1971/2 at the Top Rank Suite, and it was Slade, and all the girls were throwing there knickers at Noddy Holder, it was also the era of MIni Skirts !!!! after a short while, alot of the guys started to realise..... "hang on....if shes just took her knickers off and chucked them at Noddy"..... SHE AINT WEARING ANY !!!!!! and all of a sudden.......everytime you saw a pair of knickers launched in the air onto the stage, there was this big surge towards that area, it was soooooo funny, classic stuff, shame, doubt you would experiance anything like that now, good old harmless fun :clap2: :clap2:

The Clash at Sussex Uni in 1977 - supported by Buzzcocks, Slits and Subway Sect. Liverpool won the European Cup that night and we watched the game in the Uni bar. Gatecrashed the post-gig party and spent some time chatting to Mick Jones and Joey Ramone (RIP), Great night.

There were a number of Can gigs that were great in the mid-70s but the one at Croydon Greyhound in 1977 was fantastic - they were on fire that night.

Other great nights were Gang of Four at Leeds Uni in 1980 and Bob Marley at the Brighton Centre in 1981.

Kraftwerk at Brixton Academy last year was pretty good too.

Like others, too many to mention, but one stands out.
In 1965, The Small Faces, (original lineup), played all night, stoned out of their minds, in the 101, a mod club that was towards the bottom of West street. They'd been booked to do the gig three months earlier, but when the date came round about August time, they had a top 20 hit with "What'Cha Gonna Do About It".
They played until about 6.00 am and Marriott was f*cking awesome.
