Even further back in the day they used to tape 7" flexi discs to the front cover of the weekly paper.

One such example

My uncle used to work for a publishing company. One of their magazines was Amiga format which used to come with a floppy disk on the front. At the printers they through boxes and boxes of the surplus disks away with whatever bit of public domain software on. This was when a 1.2mb IIRC correctly floppy disk used to sell for about a pound. I was selling boxes of 60 at school for a tenner. Thousands of them

This comp is brilliant.

As is this:

So many good "world music" compilations out there by labels such as Sound Way, Luaka Bop, Analogue Africa. And, of course, you can hardly go wrong with any compilation by the incredible Soul Jazz Records label.

Didn't read all the way through the post but hope these weren't mentioned before. But the Virgin Front Line albums were terrific. It was often an inroad for us Reggae Fans who knew about Bob Marley and Toots and the Maytals and wanted to discover more.
