I don't think anybody is criticizing. We're just saying that we could do better.

Out of interest, which of his qualities is 'brilliant'?

Work rate, positional sense, tracking his player effectively and the diligence with which he goes about his job. I would say he's brilliant at those things.

He does however still need work on his crossing, finishing and decision making but that applies to almost all of our players almost all of the time.

But we should acknowledge that he's miles ahead of anyone else in our squad who could be playing LWB

Before his injury he was statistically one of the best crossers in the league. Our strikers on the other hand couldn’t score in a brothel.

Yep, I agree on both of these points. I think he's been excellent this season, just pointing out that if you were to improve on him, these would be the areas of focus for me.

Looking at his 20/21 highlights video, he could have had a lot more assists if our strikers had put away the chances.

I think he is good enough at LWB for a team aspiring for Europe, what he needs is top quality competition, we need another Lamptey vs Veltman style conundrum on the left. I’d love someone like Sosa to join our band.

I agree. However, as a Premier League player, that is expected and a bare minimum.

It's the crossing, finishing etc. which is where we can upgrade.

For me Solly has a lot of qualities. But it may be difficult for us to find a LWB with all of Solly March's qualities, and he's also decent at crossing & shooting (I wouldnt say his crossing/shooting is terrible, but needs improvement). A player of that calibre would cost a lot of money & may not come to Brighton. Not impossible to find a player like that but certainly difficult to sign. We'd probably be better off using that money somewhere else in the squad and giving Solly a few more training sessions on those areas to improve.

You've repeatedly commented on a thread that is specifically about a player that is out on loan and doesn't look as though he has a future with us, and used it to slag off a completely different player, a local lad that is thriving in the PL, and that most of us on here have enjoyed watching his development since he broke through from the DS.
There used to be threads that went under Solly's name on here, but they haven't been quite so prolific of late. We can only wonder why.

This thread about Bernardo was bounced with an article about how he is leaving in the summer and the club want to sign another LB/LWB. So naturally, people then discussed if we need to sign a backup or a starter.

All of us agree that Solly has had a great season and we've enjoyed watching his development. Some of us think that he is a brilliant LWB. Some of us think that he's good but that we can do better.

I don't think anyone has been slagging him off?

I suspect there haven't been many Solly threads recently because he hasn't played in months...

His xA (expected assists) per 90 is 0.09, which is in the 50 percentile compared to positional peers in Men's Big 5 Leagues and European Competition over the last 365 days.

Interesting debate about March a typical England international left back would cost £40-50m plus. Whilst a vast improvement this season I think some need to take a step back into reality.

Looks like a permanent move away for Bernardo is clearly on the cards. His house behind my dad's is back up to rent.

Shame to see him go as a neighbour as he and his girlfriend were really pleasant people. Nothing like like your typical pro and his wag. A credit to themselves and the club.

I certainly wish him all the best for his future, presumably at Red Bull Saltzberg.

Wonder whether another player will move in as the house is a new build and only 5 mins from the training facility.

What’s bolloxs opposing teams didn’t start doubling up on Lamptey ??? Quite sure they did.

But I was defending Solly...

The thing is, l really don't see Solly as a traditional left back at all, great at overlapping of course and hitting the line, but then thats his bread and butter, as he is after all a winger at heart.

Much improved though in this new, to him, position, but l just don't see him as a natural defender and putting in a crunching tackle!

Some were even advocating Southgate picking him for England, which for me would be frankly ridiculous.

I had thought for a long time that Solly was a bit lightweight and always flattered to deceive but until his injury this season he was having a storming season and I suggest that his defending was better than his wing play. By the time he was injured I think he was one of the first names on the team sheet

#team solly here on this years performances.

Joined them on a permanent deal subject to international clearance

Good - good luck to him, and one more off the paty-roll.

Perhaps as far as LB is concerned, GP intends to play 3 at hte back this season, in which case we are OK with March and BDB as our LWB options. Neither of them are up to it as straightforward LBs in my opinion though. Maybe operate as we are this season, and hope after a year at Hearts young Cochrane is ready for the role. Plus, we still haven't seen Karbownik - he is right footed, but has occasionally apparantly played LB, so maube he'll be part of thhe answer?
