The cynic in me is wondering whether he has just found out that his injury is much more serious than we think, in which case a two and a half year deal represents very good work by his agent!

Let's hope I am wrong, in which case it is great news - and f*** off Calderwood, you're not taking him with you (or in the very worst case scenario, he'll now cost £5M more than he would have done yesterday!)

Anti-grav though was it not? Still some way.

Nah his injury return def seems to be going very well. Yes it was anti grav (I am still amazed at the equipment the Albion now have - that same club changing in portacabins just over 5 hrs ago

He puts a lot of stuff on insta and he's def making good progress - doing all sorts of fitness work now

Very interesting timing in light of CC leaving when we know that Bruce is a big admirer of Beram. Perhaps we've used some of the Villa compensation for CC on an improved offer for Beram. What would you prefer....CC or Kayal? Bit of a no brainer really!

This is most pleasing. His 1st task when fit will be to get back in the team, not as simple as many would have thought for the 2015/16 player of the season.

The next task is to convince Stephens that together, they would make an outstanding Premier League central midfield partnership and get the lad to sign a contract too.

It's no good Dale switching to Burnley, only to play alongside the thug Barton whilst the rusty Dalek wheels up and down the touchline screaming "lump it" "lump it" "play it long" whisky waving his sink plunger erratically. No, that simply wouldn't do.

A splendid day for the Albion.

I wonder if his rehab will involve chasing Bob Booker's dog around the park?

Given the form Sidwell is in (which I assume is pretty decent haven't seen a match live this season) I guess he might be waiting a while to break back into the first team...which also certainly leaves Norwood without much to do.

Barton went to Rangers and has since been released.
