The cynic in me is wondering whether he has just found out that his injury is much more serious than we think, in which case a two and a half year deal represents very good work by his agent!

Probably going to get resoundingly flamed for this, but am I the only one that reacts with a m-eh when I hear of players signing a new contract?

Yeah sure, it means they intend to stay with us, and if we do sell the player it helps to get a big fee, but let's be honest, if the right bid comes in, or a player really does want to leave, the contract is hardly worth the paper it's written on.

I kinda get what you mean and I still have lingering thoughts about players leaving in the back of my mind when the club announces deals like this –*but that's part of the game now. However, presumably this contract has some PL clause in it, which means when he's back with us, Kayal will be working harder than any of them to get the team over the line (possibly). Had he NOT signed a new contract he might not put in the same amount of effort – possibly, again

The contract means we would get money , maybe 8 million, which we would not have got if he had remained out of contract. So hardly a 'm-eh' financially and a demonstration of commitment.
