Playing devils advocate, If he goes without a handing in a transfer request, doesn't he pick up a percentage of the transfer fee?

10% of £30m is a tidy windfall, enough to cover the cost of his holiday home down south.
I suspect he's lining up holiday homes in nicer places than Worthing.

I thought players got 5% not 10 (but I'm not absolutely certain of this). Still tidy, mind.

Depends on the contract negotiated.

Not a guaranteed but obviously advantageous to the player so normally included by agents etc. If not included, no money to the player.

I believe it's 5% of the transfer fee for the player depending on contacts etc, and 5% for clubs the player has been at from the age of 12 until 23. This is known as a solidarity contribution. I believe these figures are worked out after any other compensation due is worked out, ie sell on clauses etc.

Season of Birthday% of compenstation% of total transfer fee
1250.25
1350.25
1450.25
1550.25
16100.5
17100.5
18100.5
19100.5
20100.5
21100.5
22100.5
23100.5
Total1005

So Southampton would be due between 1% and 1.5% of the total transfer fee depending on when exactly he was released by them, so between £300,000 and £450,000 approx if we sold at £30 million.

Anyone else think/hope that the no Ben white, no Bielsa theory might be true?

Imagine if brighton refusing to sell White is the catalyst for Bielsa losing his shite and walking away. Would be marvellous.

This was my favourite part. It's amazing how few Leeds fans have the first understanding of contracts and why they are in place. Although I suppose as Leeds are trying to wriggle out of their contract with Leipzig, perhaps it shouldn't be a surprise their fans show no regard for them either.

Headliner, how would you feel if KP spoke to someone at Real Madrid, and then told Leeds he was leaving, regardless of his contract? Or what if the shoe is on the other foot and the club tells a player "sorry, I know we both signed a 4-year contract, but we're fed up with paying your salary so we're letting you go". The contracts protect both parties.

Do you realise that Ben and Leeds cannot have agreed a contract in principle, as that is against the League rules and is considered tapping up. If that turns out to be the case, you might find that other clubs won't want to loan you players. We may find that clubs are also hesitant to deal deals with Leeds that aren't straight cash deals, given your recent integrity.

Hmm, a few interesting points here. yes, the Leipzig deal for Augustin is an interesting one but none of us know the written terms that were signed. Did it say that at a certain date, should Leeds be promoted, we have to buy him? If so, we simply were not promoted by that date. BUT if it says, if Leeds go up at the end of the season then we have to buy, it's pretty cut and dried.

It's a little bit embarrassing if truth be told and it's been discussed fully on our forums. Goodwill dictates we should simply buy him and sell him immediately; it's pretty clear what the intention was in a contract whatever the wording. Man Utd did after all want him last Xmas too and he is pretty highly regarded throughout Europe. There's also the angle from the players side. He does not want to make the move anymore. Should we simply ignore that? Messy.

Will other clubs take a bad opinion of us in future? Well i'm sure Leipzig will but everyone else will no doubt just take our 'dirty' money if that's the best deal on offer.

You are being naive about player contracts. Ben won't have signed anything of course, nor spoken directly to anyone at the club about terms BUT his agent will no doubt have done most of the spade work. Modern football, and no doubt every club does it. You think your recent additions only discussed terms with you after their clubs gave permission? No of course they didn't. You wanted to know a ball park figure for wages before you bid.

KP was almost on the verge of signing for Villa last summer. Yes, it shocked our fanbase when we found out only this summer, though we had heard the rumours. He was asked directly by the club if he wanted to go and if so they would sell him. FACT. In the end the lure wasn't enough and he stayed; his choice and he admitted he had been torn at the time. I've learned through time, you NEVER keep a player who wants to leave. Get them the **** out of my club no matter who they are . . . side over self every time is a bit of a Leeds hangover from the Revie years.

Regards

So now we are ‘taking the p***’ for asking for over £30m for someone who has never kicked a ball in the PL

I assume Ben's agent will be covering the issue of the cost of his Worthing abode in a negotiated signing on fee for the next 5-year contract with the Albion.

I expect the £30m offer ( if true) is based on an upfront (say £25m and add ins of which I'd think that a big proportion of that would be a staying up clause. I.e. We pay you an extra £5m if Leeds stay up this year).
If the case, then this would be really stupid for us to accept as we will be a relegation rival as are 12 or so of the teams in the PL.).
In terms of Bielsa staying , I doubt whether keeping White alone would be make or break (although hope so). Apparently they are also after an Argentinian CB for c £10m. TBH they might get better value from that player as he has greater experience than Ben White, albeit without the same potential to develop.

On Augustin, if the contract is written in such a way as you suggest, then you are trying to renege on the deal based on a technicality. I don't much care either way, but it's money you need to account for until it's been through the courts, or a settlement is reached.

I'm not being naive, of course clubs talk to players or their agents in advance. But you Leeds fans are making wild assumptions left, right and centre. You don't even know if Ben wants to stay with Leeds FFS. He's not said anything publicly that indicates that, and he's probably not been saying it privately either - at least not where anyone has managed to capture it on film.

You don't know if he's unhappy at Brighton or wants to get out, so pretty much everything you lot are basing your argument on is your own love of Leeds Utd - irrelevant to everyone else, including Ben, who has played with you for ONE season. You need to get a grip, you are the ones coming across as tinpot and pathetic.

The only facts we have are that Leeds want him and Brighton don't want to sell him - as they have said many times. Even if Leeds have secretly promised Ben £50k a week, he cannot go there unless Leeds pay whatever monstrous number it would take to convince Brighton to sell. Ben is obviously not an idiot and won't pass up the opportunity to play football in the Prem by sulking and refusing to play. Gareth Bale can do that. Ben White cannot afford the risk
