You have a weird hatred of a club hours from Brighton. Have a word with yourself.

Perhaps - my thinking was on the lines of White's rapid development with us so far and the fact that he's pretty happy here. Can understand why he'd go back to Brighton but it wouldn't make much sense if he wasn't going to start.
But he's not had a rapid development with Leeds, get over yourself.

He's maintained the level of development that was expected having done exactly the same previously with Newport
After that he has been asked to develop into a Championship defender as the next stepping stone towards the final goal of being a Premier League footballer.

Exactly on track as he would have been with one of the multitude of Championship clubs that wanted him.

Because all Leeds media, and WACCOE were pretty universal in their acknowledgement of his ability and performance levels, right from his first couple of Leeds appearances. Pontus who? etc...

The rapid development that started years ago. He has progressed with careful management and placement by his club to develop. That's what clubs with a first class development system do. When ready these players are introduced to the first team or if the belief is they are not good enough, sold. Obviously mistakes are made however we are now near the top of the tree in developing players.

With our status with our development side we are not a feeder club nor can our players be poached, fried or boiled.

U23 finished 3rd in Premier League 2
U18 finished 6th

Another scenario would be he stays at Leeds and their Championship standard defence gets ripped a new one by the likes of Salah, etc al week in week out shatters his confidence and he never plays Premier league football again. Far better to come to Brighton, if we are still in The Premier league of course, and ease his way in carefully. Ideal to step up to the mark when Dunk, Webster, Duffy are injured or suspended and may even replace them permanently over the season. By adding this I am not saying we don't get tonked every now and then but with Leeds he is one of the mainstay of their defence and would be chucked in from day one and you know as well as us it's a massive step up.
If you reckon he could handle it, all the better news for us.

He was pretty happy at his previous loans too, especially at Newport, where I seem to remember he was their player of the season.

He will obviously have developed by having a full season in The Championship, but what you need to remember is that his loans, to you and Newport alike, were all part of our plan to develop him - for us.

I'm sure he is happy at Leeds, winning and gaining plaudits. But he has been developed by Brighton - yes, part of that development plan included him being loaned to other clubs, to get first team football. Brighton have paid for that development, in expertise and of course wages. Ben might want to stay at Leeds, or perhaps he'd rather play for Brighton. Maybe he would prefer Liverpool, if that is a possibility. I don't think he has specified what his preference is, so we may as well not bother speculating any further.

But for me, the key factor is that he is contracted to Brighton, who have spent a not-inconsiderable amount of effort in helping Ben get to his current stage (including by paying him very well). At the moment, if he desperately wants to play for someone else - including Leeds - then that club has to meet Brighton's valuation, or he won't go anywhere. Player power is always the reason used by Twitter heroes, and perhaps when you are Pogba or Ronaldo that might be relevant. But if you are fresh off the back of your first season in the second-tier, it would be foolhardy in the extreme to assume you can snub your parent club - not to mention morally questionable, after all the money they have spent on development. Someone that arrogant may find themselves playing for the u23's for the next two years, and stalling their career a fair bit. Not to mention gaining a bit of a reputation for being difficult. Of course, nothing that Ben himself is saying suggests he is doing any of this, he's clearly just getting on with his football and being bloody good at it!

Best of luck for the rest of the season, I'd like to see Leeds in the PL. Although I'll have to employ someone full time to block your fans from appearing on any of my social media feeds.

Same answer as always for me. Why would we sell a player for £35m who if he keeps on his present rate of improvement could well be a £60-70m player next summer? The only way he gets sold is if he refuses a new contract and even then he has 2 years left.

He comes back, he plays for us, we improve, he improves, we take a view in 12-24 months as to what to do with him. The primary aim of the youth policy is to develop new players for the 1st team not to make money.

The real skill is to sell at the top of the market, when we have benefitted from the player and before his value starts to decline. This isn't that moment..

You probably felt the same way about Villa fans back in August.

Just saying!!

Can we add to Yorkshireman that we all do realise Leeds are a massive pull.....and they are and White is extremely happy there, who wouldn't be? Big passionate crowd, sleeping giant and could, COULD have a very successful Premier league return. I don't think we are trying to be the we are a bigger club than you fans......cos simply we are not it's just he has played an important part in Leeds progress to The Premier league and Leeds have been a great loan to help produce an emerging player from our youth ranks. It has by all accounts suited all three parties to the maximum and now he must try to make the next step which as he is a Brighton player will be with us, unless Leeds have a spare 50 million to spend on one player.

course. if you ain't wearing our white shirt it doesn't matter who you are or what you did. ;)

loads of factually inaccurate shite from both sides on here, in 15 years some folk are still peddling same agenda, it is almost comforting in a way!

liverpool or whoever would be bonkers to spend 40mil on an unproven 22 year old, different if he's had a season or two scrapping around in the lower reaches of the PL and proven himself, he hasn't. he's been playing luton on a tuesday night who shouldn't even be in the same sentence as liverpool, man city et al. he's done a decent job at leeds but ben white at the back is not what is needed to stay up in pl.

Absolutely correct. I think we already set the record for a Championship defender when we bought Webster from Bristol City. No way any club is going to pay double that for someone totally unproven at the top level. White will come back to us and be eased into the first team (start of the season of GP thinks he is ready). If he is a good as all the hype and rate of development over the last few years implies - I think he'll take time to adjust to the PL like Webster has - THEN we might start to see bids from the big clubs. Not before.

His previous loan out from Brighton.

Newport County's player of the season 'not affected by links to Tottenham Hotspur or Liverpool'.

https://www.southwalesargus.co.uk/s...-by-links-to-tottenham-hotspur-and-liverpool/

PLAYER of the year Ben White insists he won’t let links to Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool distract him from his main aim – helping Newport County AFC win promotion.

White won more than 60 per cent of the vote to be named County’s star man at this week’s South Wales Argus Sports Awards.

And the 20-year-old’s stellar performances during his loan spell from Brighton & Hove Albion have reportedly caught the eye of Premier League big boys Spurs and Liverpool.

Just stumbled across this:

But the Reds have been told they must pay more than £35m if they want to sign Brighton's 22-year-old English defender Ben White, who has impressed during a loan spell in the Championship with Leeds United this season. (Football Insider)

Disappointing if we are thinking of selling him

I very much doubt we're actively thinking of selling him, but I suspect we (ie: TB) is also realistic enough to understand that White could be a considerable asset and will have a price tag (everybody has one) which reflects that.

Anyway hans kraay fan club has nailed this whole 'debate' in 2 words:-

"Pontus who".

Either all the Yorkshiremen admit they said that in August

Thereby clearly agreeing White is special and his rise has as much to do with Newport County as it does them and BeElsie.

Or

They can deny ever saying it.

Thereby proving they know fook all about football.

Quite how these people think they can come on NSC swinging the dicks talking of centre backs, to us, of all people, is beyond me.

Sure they could probably do it about centre forwards, although that said we've never played Pat Bamford, but centre backs, the cheek of it.

Arrogant Leeds fans going on as if they did us a favour by benefitting from a player, who is arguably the difference between top 2 and playoffs, that we've developed though our academy since it opened in summer 2014.

White being one of the first recruits back then really does show that the academy was all about long-term thinking in terms of progress of the first team, and it's exciting to think that there are plenty more in the pipeline. I remember that 2014/15 season and we had quite a few fans moaning that we were 'wasting' money on building and running it when it should have been spent on strikers.

Agreed. Leeds didn't loan him from us to be fourth choice and we clearly wouldn't have loaned him to them to be back up either. They took him on to be first choice, based presumably on his previous loan spells and some knowledge of his ability.

The Leeds fans have this myth that Bielsa is some sort of miracle worker and he has basically changed a lower league footballer who Brighton didn't want (which is rubbish as we'd have sold him in that case) into an amazing player who could play in the Champions League and for England.

Very few people seem to be mentioning his time last season with Peterborough. He's been developing season on season, and next season we'll see him playing in the Premier League. He's our player, so either it will be for us or a club we've chosen to sell him to. It really is that simple.

Exactly - narrative is all wrong....WE basically did Leeds a FAVOUR by graciously agreeing to lend them one of OUR prize assets after carefully considering whether a spell in the Championship under what appears to be a decent manager would CONTINUE Ben's development towards being a PL CB. Happily it has worked out for everyone concerned
