I would agree with you if it was not for the several multi-hundred page topics on Leeds. And most other topics mentioning Leeds. You can't open a topic on here without someone mentioning Leeds at the moment.

This. NSC has become quite boring. On it less at the moment.

Yep. They have been told now on at least 4 occasions that Ben White is not for sale, but still they keep chipping away and trying to engineer a transfer.

I hope we don't deal again with them for a long long time.

They can chip away all they like. It’s up to them how much time they want to invest in a deal that isn’t going to happen.

Blimey - the last thing I would have expected to see this morning on this thread was an Albion fan criticizing the club's development plan that has helped turn another club's reject schoolboy into a player worth more than £25m (without yet playing a top-flight match).:facepalm:

However, if you are trying to suggest that White should have received his Premier League debut under Chris Hughton - I absolutely agree with you. In my humble opinion it was nothing short of shameful that when Albion had only two fit and available first team centre-backs in December 2018 (Dunk and Balogun - Duffy was serving a three-match ban), Hughton didn't even have White on the bench for matches against Chelsea and Bournemouth (White should have made his PL debut against the Cherries when Dunk received his marching orders). But then - why do you think Hughton is no longer manager, and Potter is?

However, the rest of your moaning is factually incorrect. Albion started pre-season training last year on June 27. Ben White WAS at the club for a few days as he was wearing no. 28, which was subsequently taken by Aaron Connolly in Austria and then Tudor Baluta (I make a note of these things).

There is zero chance that Potter wasn't involved in the loan decisions taken last summer.

Not really a criticism is it, more of an observation. I think we're getting into the realms that any comments outside the 'party line' are jumped on. I don't think I've been that critical, I've posed an opinion on why we hadn't judged a 22 year old as being able to add to our squad - everyone seems to think the loan was the right thing to do, which is fine, I'm asking whether it's possible there are some questions being asked back at Lancing HQ 'why did we let this kid go last season?' Not really sure why that's the last thing anyone expected to see. Are we in full hyperbole on this subject now? I note you partly agree anyway...

If they came back on June 27, are you saying the Leeds deal was done in 3 days? Or Potter looked at him for say 2 days, said he can go out on loan, and the deal was done in a day?

Every close season NSC forgets it's raison d'etre. If you don't like it, just leave for a week or two. It will be back to normal soon enough.

It is no more boring than reading Plooks' sanctimonious drivel. We get it - Leeds threads are boring apparently. Well they won't be prominent forever and it will all be forgotten about in 3 weeks, so just leave for a while if you don't like it.

What else is as hot a topic as Ben White for Albion fans? I personally can't bring myself to keep reading about how utterly shit our government is because I find it so depressing, so apart from once (and one comment yesterday), guess what, I don't read those threads anymore.

One on Ben White (a thread about OUR player where they acting like a bunch of lovestruck teenagers fawning over the fittest girl in the class where they actually thought they had a chance) and one of the utter delusion being displayed by their lot as they MARCH back in after 16 years to STORM the PL and onwards to Europe with BIELSABALL (subject to new contract being signed - tick tock). I've quite enjoyed it personally (useful distraction when working from home, and currently not much football to discuss) - if I didn't, I'd just IGNORE THE THREAD

So he had done brilliant in the championship . You would rather he sat on his arse on the bench for most games ?

No of course not. One of my posts was we bought in Webster for £20m a month after White went on loan. I think pre-Potter the club was in a frame of mind where youngsters wouldn't get in the team unless proven out on loan. Potter has changed that as Alzate and Connolly show. All hindsight and opinion as I previously said, I'm no expert as previously said, and I'm not really criticising the club as previously said. We're highly rating Ben White, there are potentially top 6 clubs sniffing around, and yet you think under Potter he would have only made the bench all season? He isn't a 19 yr old youngster, he turns 23 in 2 months.

All this 'Ben wants to go back to Leeds' where are these 'pundits' getting that info from. Sounds like he has rejected a couple of new contract offers from us, but that is up to him to get the best deal and why should he accept the first deal. But also, I am sure the club are happy for him to sit on his current contract which still has at least 2 years on it.

This weekend will be interesting, if Ben wants out he will need to hand in a transfer request and he will need to move soon as Leeds will be looking at other options.

Pretty sure he would have handed in a transfer request weeks ago if that's what he wanted.

I said most ! But yes, he would not have been the game time as he would at Leeds. And it has to be better for his development stepping up in increments. Remembering he played at Newport and Peterborough.

Ref Webster : He was already voted player of the year in the championship. Which is where White is now after a season with Leeds in the same division.

Not necessarily.

It is quite feasible (and entirely understandable) if he wanted to wait a few weeks, for the Albion's plans for their army of centre backs, to become clearer.

Whether Dunk stays / whether Duffy leaves / whether Clarke goes back out on loan / whether we signed anyone else (we did - Veltman) all impact White's playing probabilities.

The facts of it are... Leeds really want him but we done want to sell. That situation wont change. The other factor that could swing it is if Ben wants to go. Evidence for that would be a transfer request, which has not happened, or possibly these rejected contracts, but equally rejecting a contract might have nothing to do with wanting to go to Leeds and could simply be him negotiating the best deal for himself at Brighton. One way or another this will be put to bed in the next week or 2. He'll want to spend most of pre-season at the club he's going to play for, so i would imagine in near future we'll either see a new contract agreed, or a transfer request will appear. If that does, Tony will set a valuation and say he can go only if its met.

In the debate of managers, where does 'spying on opponent's training to know their tactics and plan and respond v recognising and responding to the tactics in the heat of the game' discussion fit in? Surely it's easier to counter opponents if you've cheated to spy on their training and take your time to plot a response than it is to read the game in front of you and respond accordingly immediately?
