Unless our first game is against Leeds.....
In which case White scoring a 94th minute winner, ideally against the run of play, and celebrating by kissing the badge would be accepable.

Decent piece - but why on earth does he make a fool of himself by saying, without any evidence, that Leeds are favourites to sign him?

Thats true........ seems like every ex pro/manager/pundit is offering him around to various clubs as if he's a free agent, forgetting hes a contracted Brighton player

Just had the pleasure of meeting a Leeds fan who as soon as we got onto the subject of football & our teams without a hint of irony or sarcasm asked ''Why wont you sell us Ben White?!'' As if we are somehow being unreasonable... It seems completely lost on some of them that the money involved doesnt really matter, and that we might actually just want to keep hold of a good player. OUR player. This was then followed up with ''You know he's desperate to play for us next season dont you?!''.... Really? Have you personally asked him?

I thought it was just the twitter morons who had this strangely entitled attitude, but no this was a 50ish year old adult.

He has obviously asked him, just before he speaks to the club and puts in a transfer request. He did, no he didn't.

It still makes me smile remembering Bobby mkII at Elland Road with the last minute dink. Not many better feelings that beating Leeds, not many worse than losing to them.

He probably believes the local media.

He grew up with a few sources of media that appeared to be, and probably were, much more professional. BBC and all that.

He’s probably reading articles nowadays on the internet written by rubbish biased bloggers on clickbait websites that look professional like LeedsLive.
It’s all bollocks and speculation.
And it’s a localised ECHO CHAMBER.
One article quoting another, quoting another, quoting another, quoting a tweet from an idiot.

And hence he’s convinced of things that have been made up.

Modern journalism is a sad state of affairs, not confined to football transfers.

I can’t access this because it’s behind a paywall. Is there a synopsis anywhere?

It's a technical article which can't be summarised without quoting in full.

It concludes :

"As we’ve said, it’s difficult to know how a player would fit into a new side, and more so with central defenders than any other position. The simplest option for White would be a return to Elland Road — he knows the system, the other players, and he’s clearly a huge asset to the team.
But with Brighton keen to hold on to their most promising player, and clubs with more financial clout keeping a close eye on proceedings, it’s entirely possible that White will find himself in a new defensive set-up next season.
What’s clear, though, is he has the skills to succeed almost anywhere."

If only our Academy taught the scholars & U23s the same system as the first team.

Sell them Webster instead. they'd even save a few bob

I fear BW is in for a torrid time if we keep him and he takes as much time as Webster did to settle in rather than arrive as the ready made world class player he is being built up to be.

FWIW I think Webster is a quality player who will only get better but feck me has he had some abuse on here as he got up to speed. Of course some will continue to slag him off and look for mistakes rather than admit they might have been a bit hasty. It’s the NSC way

In short I think BW will have a similar journey if he stays.

Once he signs I think I might prepare a “This White experiment has to end on January 01” thread in readiness for when he costs us a couple of goals

Modern journalism is a sad state of affairs, not confined to football transfers.

Tell me about it. I've just had an argument over an article I'm writing right now. I said that I'd need an extra day or so to research it more thorough but been told there's no money for it and to just knock it out with what I can find on the web.

What makes football different though is that it's hugely popular and there's a big thirst for information. The White story is a case in point. Only a select few people know the ins and outs of the whole saga and they're keeping their cards close to their chest (which is as it should be). In the meantime, the 24-hour news channels and the specialis blogs have spaces to fill, so there's endless speculation.

I think BW will struggle like Webster did at times, particularly with the physical aspect.

It does look like White has less errors in him though, whereas Webster has a heavy third/fourth touch when he brings the ball out.

That said, as I posted elsewhere, I felt Webster was our best player post restart and wonder that if Dunk leaves, whether he’ll go more central in the 3, as he looked like he was beginning to lead more vocally as his confidence grew.
