Clearly, really quite sad.

I’d have given everything to represent my country, with pride and with one eye of getting as many caps as possible… not some jingoistic nonsense, but being the best at my sport.

The fact that White got Edu to do his dirty work makes it even worse, frankly the behaviour of someone who’s a bit of a knob head.
I wouldn’t have cared less. In fact I’d have turned it down. Now playing no 10 for Brighton I’d have loved that.

Everybody is different.

Well, a choice between the two - it’s Albion all the way.

But like I say, to compete at the top and be the best, international competition really is where it’s at… it’s not a nationalistic crusade, but being a real, genuine winner… are you telling me, if you were Argentinian, you’d have chosen to stay at home rather than be a part of a World Cup winning squad? I’m not sure I quite believe you, but if you have your reasons - then fair enough.

White though has represented England, so I’d suggest this is a personal thing - letting that cloud judgement and restrict a chance at personal glory really is at odds with training everyday to be the best player he can be… very difficult to understand.

He went home in the middle of the last world cup, didn't he? Maybe it's a psychological thing associated with that.

Now, I’m not a huge fan of Gareth - a post modern anti Alan Bennet ‘nice’ none northern cliche of a PE teacher…

But I find this all rather odd.

To play for your country is a honour, so suck it up and play for the shirt.

To compound things you’ve got Gareth saying he’s not sure why ?!? Seriously, wtf? Ask the perma-tanned fashion poodle !

I wish people would speak plainly, the modern world is a minefield of people tripping over themselves to be as inoffensive as possible… and that right there is why we’ll never win anything with Gareth at the helm.

Maybe the truth throws White under the bus?

For all his tactical issues, Southgate is a decent person.

Nothing to do with Southgate. The media report that BW fell out with Steve Holland.
Yes, but Gareth says nothing could be further from the truth and he’s not having this urban mythery perpetuated in the ‘media.’

I mean, this stuff really is HIGH drama.

A manager who doesn’t titillate nosey buggers and burn bridges, by keeping things indoors.

Kyle Walker is streets ahead, there’s little loss to England.

I’m inclined to agree… 👍 Still, Ben should recognise the importance of setting a good example to youngsters, and you know… answer the call. ☎️

Or someone who doesn't like, maybe has good reason not to like Southgate

The whole thing about him 'not liking football' - didn't that all stem from a comment when he said he doesn't really watch football at home?

That doesn't mean he doesn't like football, just that it's not his entire life.

Not a great fan of Southgate but I would not select players that have refused in the past
Depends why they refused. White could be like Vardy (imposter syndrome). Or Sharer (protect the career by avoiding the odd pointless game against professional maimers). Perhaps he needs to be a bit forthcoming with Southgate so it can be put to bed.
