Ben Marshall's potential suitors have been told by Blackburn boss Gary Bowyer that £1.5million would not even buy his right foot.

Brighton and Sheffield Wednesday have been linked with the former Manchester United trainee as they look to take advantage of Sky Bet Championship rival Rovers' transfer embargo.

Responding to speculation Marshall could be the subject of a £1.5m switch, the Blackburn boss told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph: "The figures that have been mentioned wouldn't buy his right foot - and he's got two outstanding feet and a fantastic head."

This. That is simply the manager talking up the fee as much as possible, with the knowledge the player will most likely move. If it's a move to us I don't know, but it sounds like he's leaving Blackburn.

I don't think that first bit was necessarily true until last season.

We had a lot of momentum, had finished higher than them, had a nicer ground and state of the art training facilities on the way. The likes of Vicente, Bridge and Upson were on the payroll. We were getting 25,000 at home and taking decent numbers away. Wednesday, meanwhile were struggling at the other end of the table and had ownership issues.

It says so much about the car crash that was last season that the position is, indeed, probably reversed now. Wednesday are starting to spend again and comfortably beat us in the table. We are no longer Brighton on the verge of the Premier League stuffed full of household names. We have some decent internationals arriving again now but they are still internationals from Finland, Israel and Cameroon rather than England and Spain. A step up though on, say, CMS, Joe Bennett and Gary Gardner.

One season has literally destroyed our reputation and I agree we are going to have to push that bit harder financially to get back to where we were.

Indeed. The utterances of a mere manager have no relation to whether a player is sold
