My only issue with the bear pit is its description. Should at least mention somewhere that it's where NSC racist posters manage to get threads sent to.

Except it’s not exclusively for that purpose. It’s somewhere for the people on both sides of repetitive arguments about race and religion to go to have their tedious, point scoring, insulting exchanges away from the rest of us.

That's why I said "should at least mention somewhere", not, "The Bear Pit is for the racists."

I managed to get a thread I started moved out of the Bear Pit by the *mods for not being argumentative enough. I am not sure I will ever be able to live that one down.

*Fascists/LeftyTory/Socialist B'stards delete as applicable.

Being racist but not homophobic, I’m sure Das will find something to tickle his fancy in the all white bear pit/locker room.

The 'always have to have the last say' brigade, posting zzzzzz politics from the moment they wake to bedtime, agendas of spitefully hating anyone right of the LibDems, or conversely snide racism.

Now they they bore each other to death in a side show, with no one watching.

Funnily enough, the sub-forum is hardly used.

Well, I'm not sure what I feel about the creation of this bear pit, and for several interconnected reasons.
It's created a sub-forum which, as several posters have gleefully pointed out, has been marginalised. While it would go too far to characterise this as 'no platforming', it's at the very least marginalising certain views. One of the issues that has cropped up on various threads on NSC is that of free speech which tends to produce a polarised binary response, ie "I'm/you're for/against free speech". I tend to be pro-free speech, unless it descends into hate speech (which admittedly is difficult to circumscribe), but I also tend to have deep problems with those on NSC that are free speech zealots. And that's because free speech zealots tend to defend and/or promote hate speech.
Those that marginalise platforms -- in this instance, it's Bozza -- are often accused of being anti-free speech, sacrificing a long-earned, hard-fought freedom. But this also raises the question about which threads find their way into the Bear Pit and, perhaps more importantly, who assigns them there. And this requires some sort of function which could be called policing, but also moderating. And this, in turn, depends on the 'persuasion' of those that are serving this role. So it'd be useful if there was an explanation at the start of each thread as to why it has been moved to the Bear Pit and by whom.
For instance, and if you're still reading, the Trump thread hasn't made it there, whereas the following three have: 1, Are you left or right?; 2, PMQs; and, 3, Just how awful is this government? I'm still struggling to understand how this has transpired, and one explanation might be to expect consistency is too much, which would be an entirely valid response in my view. A more cynical view would offer that the three included/excluded threads have been moved because this dire government -- and the right, more generally -- are beginning to cop some flak.
To return to the beginning, in principle, I'm unsure where I stand on this but if its effect is to marginalise hate speech, then I'm all for it.

I’m pleased it been set up.

I’m on NSC to chat about football, not listen to complete bollocks from fellow supporters about their respective political beliefs.

I honestly don't think there's anything ambiguous at all about

Sub-forum for discussions which are either likely to turn toxic or have turned toxic. Typically these threads are politically-focused and involve a small group of people getting angry with each other, whilst absolutely no-one will attempt to see the other side, nor change their perspective.

If NSC ever produces a political thread where people discuss the issue without resorting to whataboutism, insults and settling old scores then it'll stay on the main page, exactly as per that definition. Unfortunately, there are a small but noticeable sub section of users who are unable to do so.

The threads haven’t disappeared - they’ve just been moved. If people want to participate in them then there is nothing stopping them. If loads of NSC users wanted to engage in the threads on the BP then the user numbers on that bit of the board would reflect that. But at the moment the numbers suggest just a handful of people want to. So no censorship or curtailing of free speech. Just market forces and people voting with their feet I guess.

Generally supportive but there's an obvious incentive for those who don't like a particular user or topic being discussed or even the way it is being discussed to binfest a thread early doors to get it moved off the mainboard .. a recent Mouldy Boots thread springs to mind. Hopefully, the Mods will keep an eye on this ..

Whilst I really don't wish to be rude - live and let live and all that and you are not on my ignore list which lies empty since BG passed away - when I see your name by a post I expect some sort of left wing, anti-government, political moan or other. That may be unjustified and sorry if it is, but I'm very happy to see an imperfect bear pit as a start. I'm not tarring you with all these brushes all the time, but I'm pleased politics (by which NSC means anti-Tory, love Starmer) is consigned to the outer reaches. Give me HWT and his unremittingly obscure musical tastes mixed with a bit of footie any time.
