Worthing
After 3 days I`d have to say the BBC are forging well ahead. They have made a solid start but ITV with their HD debacle last night and then again tonights efforts with Jim Beglin and Clive T making me for the first time wish that those vuvuzelas were even louder to drown those idiots out. At every opportunity they were trying to rip into the ref who I thought got pretty much everything right.
I`m missing Sky.

''Mueller will feel better for that goal after missing a chance in the champions league final. '' .....Beglin.

Under your skin.
In the Algeria game today BBC annoyed me. When the sub got sent off they saw he had been booked for a 2nd time so why did they then sound shocked at the red card? :US:

Aha! Well done that man. I've been waiting for what seems an age for a thread moaning about ITV's coverage.

Nah..they were saying that they didn't remember the first yellow, so began to believe he had been sent off for one yellow..

The BBC ITV matchup is about as one sided a contest as an Australia v Germany game!

True ITV are hopelessly inept at presentation

Apart from the sending off and a few of the bookings yep, the ref got most things right. Commentators were fine I thought.

ITV must know how crap the viewers think they are, if this site is anything to go by, or are they just totally unaware and therefore unlikely to do anything about it.

I thought that was more to do with the fact that he'd only been on the field for just over 10 minutes and was off - the commentator (can't remember who it was) kept going on and on about it.

The Beeb:

Pros:
No adverts,
Good quality pundits (mostly) - by this I mean, most were internationals and CL/EC winners,
Solid commentary,

Cons:
Hansen is miserable,
Lineker is most definately smug and most definately not FUNNY,
Over-hype of England,
No Adrian Chiles.

ITV:

Pros:
Marcel Desailly,
Adrian Chiles.

Cons:
Adverts,
Jim Beglin,
Clive Tyldesley,
Peter Drury,
Andy Townsend,
Adverts,
Robbie Earle,
Gabriel Clarke
Adverts,
Extremely poor commentary

I think they probably do know, but won't do anything about it. All the time they have exclusive coverage of games it really doesn't matter how bad their pundits, commentators and presentation is, people will still watch.

There's really only 2 ways to force ITV to seriously address their shortcomings. Either stop them having exclusive rights to games, or if they do have exclusives, then a mass public boycott of watching it. Problem is, we all know neither of those scenarios will happen.

extending the debate to online performance, ITV com kept looping adverts whilst failing to load...watching on catchuptv.com.

Very poor...

Which lot had Adebayor? Couldn't understand a word he said! Not sure he was even talking in English!

That was with the BBC.

Never thought I'd say this, as I've always preferred the BBC over ITV's clueless and amateurish coverage for football, but, bar the obvious HD disaster on Saturday night, I honestly think ITV's World Cup coverage has just about edged it thus far. Well, for match summaries anyway.

Hansen's wryness has become tiresome, Shearer adds nothing to the debate, and Adebayor talks like John Barnes on speed. I'm fed up of Gary Lineker and his crisp-packet punnery as anchorman as well.

Okay, so ITV have Andy Townsend, who is still dreadful, and the jury's still out on Adrian Chiles as anchorman, but Gareth Southgate, Edgar Davids and Patrick Vieira have provided some surprisingly intelligent viewpoints on the games they've watched and Marcel Desailly has been great value (Did anyone see his reaction to the Ghana goal yesterday? Absolute gold).

As for commentators though, Drury, Beglin and Tydesley have all been as frustrating as usual to listen to, whereas Mark Bright is probably the only bad thing about the BBC's commentary team.

One mark down for BBC, Adebayors mobile has just gone off twice during their coverage.

:lolol:

What a ringtone he's got too!

Chiles should never have left MotD2,sat tight there and waited for his chance. I do think Gary/L has had his day and MotD needs a re-vamp. Chiles as host with say Claridge (i like him on the radio) and a weekly guest 'pundit'
