I suppose Hatton's fight the week end before will have a large bearing but for me Calzaghe all the way.

The fight is morning of the ceremony UK time, not the week before (assuming the given date of December 9th for the ceremony is still correct).

I'd vote for Calzaghe myself, or for Hatton if he beats PBF, but I'll have no real argument when Hamilton gets it.

Hamilton LOST he came SECOND and had by far the best car. Why do we always back LOSERS in this country. Calzaghe has been a WINNER for 10 years now.

Exactly, so how is it when we do get a world champion they're not even considered for BBC Sports personality of the year!
Ladies and gentlemen I give you James Toseland World Superbike champion (for the second time). These guys put their lives on the line every time they race, not like those overpaid namby panby F1 drivers in Grand Prix racing, or formula pit stop as it's otherwise known. Boring as f*** and if you're really lucky you might even see someone overtake!

Very definitely worth it BUT his name isn't very familiar to the great British public. And after years of Jensen Button who never wins the gBp have now got a racer that does win races - it doesn't matter about the car or anything else but his name is at forefront of people's minds and that means that he'll win.

Hatton for me out of the 4.

James Toseland is a world champ, but no doubt 2-wheel motorsport will be lucky to get a nano-second's worth of coverage.

I hope Colin Macrae gets a decent tribute.

Lewis Hamilton will win it hands down unless Princess Anne wins it for the loudest fart or something. The only other serious contenders are both boxers so that vote's split down the middle between the plug-ugly one and, er, the other plug-ugly one.

JT may have a better chance next year as he'll be getting terrestrial coverage in MotoGP. Just hope he's competitive enough to be challenging for race wins.

Fogarty never had a sniff at Sports Personality during his time in WSBK, despite winning a gazillion races and 5 World Titles.

Calzaghe hasn't just been a champion for 10 years and unbeaten in 44 fights, by beating Kessler last weekend, he became the undisputed super middleweight champion of the world.
He deserves to be Sports Personality of the Year because of the unification at this weight.
Until 2-wheel sports gets better media coverage, JT won't win, no matter how deserved.

Wherever The Mood Takes Me
Steered us to a WORLD CUP FINAL, in a sport that people actually care about - as opposed to winning one race.

Johnny Wilkinson plays Rugby!! Thats not a sport that MANY people actually care about is it??!!

Yeah some people got caught up in the World Cup thing but in normal circumstances people couldnt give a flying f*** about it and I doubt many people could even list 10 rugby teams from their own country.

Eh!? Thousands of people go and watch rugby every week, not to mention the numerous clubs (thousands again) that have numerous teams of all age groups.

Is there even a rugby team this side of London? I'm just asking as Ive never heard of one.

Is Rugby played at any normal schools? I know it wasnt at ANY of the schools I went to. The only people I know that played Rugby at school were people that went to boarding school.

Well, I went to a boarding school and we played Hove Park School in a one off event. Admittedly, there were a limited amount of state school opponents to play. HPS were rather dirty, one of the props attempted to gouge out my eyeball. :tosser:

There is not a professional club in Sussex, but the amateur scene is not bad. Worthing is the strongest side.

I used to watch Brighton a fair bit. Good facilities at Waterhall with a fully stocked bar. :drink:
