Watchin the boats go by
has to be lewis. despite him crashing out in such a typically british style still managed to get the whole nation into motor sport. and on top of that he actually has quite a nice personality. well done that man.

Exactly! He's broken records for a rookie in F1 all this year and has actually made people start watching ITV on a Sunday afternoon again. And, Spielberg, he did not have by far the quickest car, the last few races will tell you that much!

er, how, he needed 4 points from 2 races and blew it

The team were or blame in China and if he hadn't lost gears for a minute or so in the Brazil race he would have comfortably finished high enough to win. He also had the current world champion whinging and crying and refusing to help him in anyway. In short he exploded on the world scene in a more impressive way than anyone has done since probably Beckham??

Re Justin Rose - Monty's done what he's done AND had good Ryder Cup years without gewtting a sniff, so consistency shows Rose is well off the pace.

Re Calzaghe - 44 wins out of 44, undefeated for 10 years, undisputed unified champion of his weight, top bloke, 35 years old and due to retire in one year. The only way he should, morally, NOT win is if Hatton has the fight of his life vs Mayweather.

Is anyone else wondering what the f*** Tim Henman is doing in there.

It's so obvious that Hamilton will win by the way.

He was an integral part of the Davis Cup team that led us back into the World Group and has just retired after dragging British Tennis along for over a decade with the help of Greg.

Actually that's a good answer BoF, just thought of all them in my head

Got no chance of winning it though

Its all very well saying so and so should win it because they have been amazing over the last 5/10 years but has everyone forgotten that its sports personality of the YEAR, not decade?

And Hamilton will win it because everyone likes an underdog come good story!

Its nothing to do with being Welsh - its because by and large people don't give a f*** about boxing.

And they care about Show Jumping?

I like to think people respect winning something more than the sport itself. If Hamilton wins, it'll be a joke. Hang on it already is. So why do I care? I don't . Goodbye.

His presence was far more important than his contribution this time though, he really didn't play that well, he just inspired the rest of the team by being on the pitch again.

Remind me what the award is called again.

When did a show-jumper win then?

[Zara Philips is the World Three-Day Eventing Champion. Trust me, its VERY different].

Now I happen to think Lewis Hamilton is great - breathing life into a sport that had become montonous at best, turgid at worst. However he finished second in a marvellous debut season. Joe Calzaghe has been a world champ for10 years. He, nor the brilliant Ricky Hatton, never gets the recognitionhe deserves because of the pay TV schedules. Lewis is 1/3 on bet 365, Ricky is 4/1 and Joe 9/1.
The big problem we have is that it's called sports PERSONALITY of th year which means every joker and glorious loser has a chance to, for once, be a winner. Perhaps a cultural change whereby we recognise only winners is called for...

Please let it be someone who has actually won something, or come first or is World Champ, lets not reward someone for coming second

Anyone who competes in their sport for about an hour a YEAR doesn't deserve it.
