Rays fan here. Lived in St Petersburg for a year in 2009 and went to many games. I became mildly obsessed. Saw a lesser-spotted Grand Slam. Joe Maddon was managing at the time and he delivered the Cubs’ first title for 108 years. They have always known what they’re doing on one of the smallest budgets.

I didn’t make the family zoom last Sunday as, with work and one third of one game, I was utterly exhausted.

My wife told her family zoom to imagine a small team doing well. “Like Brighton?” came the response. It’s like Burnley and West Brom with nowhere near the first pick of the draft.
