Interesting GB-although some of the best baseball games I've ever seen have been the ones where it's 0-0 going into the 9th inning. Then again, there's nothing like a 17-10 slugfest either. Both will stop you leaving before the game finishes but that's a whole other thread.......

It's quite sad that people miss out on different things because it's not the done thing to like other country's sports/foods/etc.

Worthing
My vote then

Baseball: Wonderful game, that really has to be watched live to appreciate it. It is the only game where you get action going on in four different areas at the same time.

Add the wonderful stadia, the entertaining fans. (It is the blue collar sport in the US) and you have a quite a show. I agree the world series was crap, but thats only because the Cubs went out just before the World Series.

Has it been Yankees v Cubs it would have been very different.

I took my Kids to a game this year (Seattle) and they loved it. (interesting they don't like football.) But it was the atmosphere that sold them.

Hockey: OK! Don't mind occasionally

American Football: The most tedious 'sport' on the planet.

It's good to see that there are lots of baseball fans here on NSC.

I've actually played the game (Dundee Dodgers, 1989-1990) and it's great fun. I think anyone who enjoys cricket will, given time, appreciate baseball.

As far as this years World Series goes it was by no means a classic. The series everyone wanted to see was the Chicago Cubs vs. Boston Red Sox, two of the biggest teams who have not won anything since WW1. Unfortunately, they both got knocked out at the semi-final stage.

I've just come back from 2 weeks in the States, and it is staggering just how unpopular the Yankees are. I reckon that probably about 90% of viewers wanted the Marlins to win, judging by the reactions I saw in the bars of San Francisco, Vegas and LA.

Unless you're a Wankees fan-it's law that you have to hate them.

too f***ing right!! GO JAYS GO!!!

baseball is a blinding game once you understand the rules and get over the 'every american sport is gay' argument.

ice hockey is another superb game and is extremely exciting and fun to watch.

i'm just getting my head round american football and having thought it was a pile of wank for many years (the many years i didnt watch it) i now hold the opinion that it too is a quality game...

basketball sucks cock.

and the maple leafs WILL win the stanley cup this year. you heard it hear first.

You were doing OK until that last bit. I'm a big Leafs fan but the Guildford Flames have more chance of winning the Stanley Cup than the Leafs:(

Still, nice to see another Leaf fan on here:wave:

Having spent the past week in the US I have had the baseball "world" series trust upon me from all angles. I sat through a couple of games and attempted to get enthusiastic, but i'm afraid I ended up thinking it was a load of over hyped American bollox!

Does everyone agree that American sports, and inparticular baseball are shite? (if anyone cares the Florida Marlins beat the New York Yankees to win the world series 4-2)

Brighton Bird !! Thats basketball innit ??:D

BLASPHEMY!!!

when i saw the leafs pre season they looked pretty sharp (yes juan, excluding the beating(s) from the sens!!) and have won 3 on the spin now.

i honestly think we've got a good chance and shall be back in town for the last 3 games of the regular season in march before our mightly victorious playoff campaign :clap2:

you know it makes sense juan!!!

(sorry! cant help it!)

When you are coming off a season with the best record in the whole of hockey, and your roster is now stronger, you can relax and watch as the Leafs huff and puff - and ultimately let everyone down as usual.

Still, they'll be useful fodder for the Sens in the first round of the playoffs. Went to see them play each other in the playoffs 18 months ago. Awesome atmosphere.

BTW, there's a terrible misprint on the CNN scoreboard tonight. They have the Leafs losing at home to the Atlanta Thrashers. Shocking error on someone's part, surely? Mind you, TSN have the same error...

Don't remember seeing a sacrifice bunt in rounders.

The 2nd Southwick Brownies lost their rounders game against 1st Portslade when Portslade scored on a suicide squeeze in the bottom of the ninth:lolol:

Southwick's Brown Owl was said to be livid and promised we'd see famed knuckleballer Julie Juggs start in their next match-up.

You know, he's right-it is just like rounders:rolleyes:
