Quite a few reports - although I appreciate it could well be one made-up report that is now being rehashed to kingdom come - suggesting United quite fancy Verbruggen to replace the hapless Onana.

I could see he has the sort of attributes they'd appreciate but given the problems they have elsewhere, I'm not sure a new keeper would be top of their shopping list.

Talk of a £30m feels on the low side though, doesn't it?

I know he's been linked to the likes of Bayern previously - wonder if there will be a concerted effort by a club this summer.

New rumour...Man United apparently looking at Bart as their new goalie. There's a few papers saying the same thing but here's one:

Of course, could all be guff... hope so.

I can see an approach coming in from somewhere, I rate him very highly. I’d rather he went to Real Madrid to be honest, especially since I can’t see Jim allowing the purse-strings to be loosened enough to pay for him. At present it’s a retrograde step for Bart too.

At 22, I think he's still too young and £30M definitely too cheap. I think in a couple of years time he could well get double that. (Or double again if Chelsea are interested, who let's not forget spent £80M on a keeper only to loan him out and replace him with Sanchez) :lolol:

I imagine there’s a lot of teams that fancy Verbruggen at the moment but it really would be stretching it to think we would put Steele back in as our number 1 and sell the best GK we have for well below his potential - Steele is not exactly the football playing keeper I imagine FH would prefer between the sticks over Bart.

I think I’ll discard this along with rumours of January departures for Welbeck and Ferguson as just rumour and gossip until solid sources come to light.

No point worrying and stressing preemptively about our top players who might move on to bigger clubs, we’d never have a moments peace!

£30m does seem low given our options and the need to replace him. I guess we are moving into more unchartered territory where having paid what is for us very large fees any sale needs to be sky high to make financial sense.

Well, clearly we wouldnt. Jason Steele will not be our number one again.

If/when Verbruggen does move on to pastures newer and greener, we would replace him either with one of our zillion young keepers who are out and about, if any are deemed ready, or we'll buy in someone else who is "Premier League ready" and with scope to continue to improve and increase in value.

BV is good but not great at this stage, I think nearer £35m-40m may be about right.

I would hope Rushworth is given an opportunity, not sure Beadle has the presence yet, but he is also doing well at Sheff Wed.

I wouldn’t want to see him go but it’s the position I would be least concerned about if we did sell. With Rushworth and Beadle we are well stocked.

We have no one ready to replace him in January from our loanees or youth players that could be nearly as good and unless you have also heard rumours that we are looking at a near decent EPL-ready GK that is anywhere close to Bart, Steele is the only one that could step in in a few weeks time which means it is very unlikely the Club would be willing to sell Bart in January..

In the next summer window, we could certainly lose several key players to larger clubs, including Verbruggen - obviously our recruitment and succession plans mean we have a rolling contingencies for all our top players and in the summer window, more players are available to buy but that’s very different from unfounded rumours circulating about shock departures in the run up to the January window by some of our top players especially when it is not a window we would be looking to replace key players - which was what your post was about.

We are all entitled to a POV.

I’ll believe Brighton is thinking of letting Bart go (especially for £30m) when I see some reliable sources. It doesn’t make sense financially or from a football pov to me.

Until then, it’s not news that any/all our top players are attracting ‘interest’ and ‘rumours’ about moves to big clubs - I would be surprised if they did not tbh.

(IMHO of course!)

De Gae was about the same age when he went to Utd.

A year and a half ago they paid £43.8m plus £3.4m add-ons for Onana. If they want to replace him, that'll be the benchmark for a Summer fee. There'll be competition then, with City, possibly Liverpool, Chelsea, big clubs from Europe also looking for keepers.

If we do sell him - it won't be in January.

The earliest he may leave is the summer, which would give us a window to replace him. And if we do expect him to leave, we will have a solution to that problem.

And no-one, including me, are saying we are thinking of letting him go for £30m.

Agreed and both the points I was making above but we are a few days away from a January window so thread titles like that tend to give the impression otherwise as do all these sports rags posting clickbait headlines about possible transfers before every transfer window until you read the small print that they are not talking about the next transfer window but printing rumours about the one after that !.
