No need to be so aggressive but regardless, I don’t think he’s very good as plenty of us also believe and I want a keeper that doesn’t gift half a dozen (so far) calamities / comedy goals each season as Sanchez did until he was dropped and sold and continues to do (and also predicted to be Spains No.1 for next decade blah blah blah blah blah). Oh, and I don’t think our search should be limited to 21years old.
I just don't understand this obsession with picking holes in the performances of our young players.

We know the strategy of the club. It's finding value in youngsters, developing them and selling them on. There are few young players in world football who don't make mistakes, it's part of learning!

Obsession? Picking holes in young players? Please. If Milner was having a stinker then he’d not be above criticism either. No one is. It’s the PL, not junior high. Regardless, if Steele wasn’t injured he’d have the shirt as previously said. Bart’s had more than a couple of bad days to justify being dropped. Even so, it would be even better if we had an older experienced top quality keeper as 1st choice, rather than promising rookies that frequently gift goals. Besides, Bart is nowhere near guaranteed to be the world beater you’re convinced he will be, and won’t stay if he is, so excuse me if I’m all about the present and dealing with facts as of now.

That's PRECISELY my point. It is extremely unfair to criticise YOUNG players who are still learning the ropes when they make a few mistakes.

Anyway, be interested to know where you'd have us find this "older experienced top quality keeper"?

In fact, while you're at it, we might as well get one of these older experienced top quality players in every position on the pitch so that we could have a proper tilt at the CL.

Maybe RDZ was on to something. Bart not quite ready to be trusted as the permanent number 1? Maybe could use a break?
I did suggest that at the time - and again when Bart established himself as #1 - and was told by more than one poster that I was taking nonsense.

Who knows but, howler aside, I thought he did OK tonight.

How many goals has he been directly responsible for this season Must be 4/5
Probably more than Steele has been in his Albion career :lolol:

Was a handling error but was a mishit and difficult cross to deal with. Main thing is that prick palmer looked a prick from ONCE AGAIN goading our fans after a goal. He really is a tosser.

Some do, yes. He never, ever made a match saving/match winning worldy. Right?

.....but RDZ (who could do know wrong, remember - or do other people have short memories too?) managed to con no end of people into believing Steele - or dicking about between Steele and Verbruggen - was a better goal-keeping option. Good smoke and mirrors merchant, that RDZ.
Are your really defending Sanchez? The Sanchez that Chelsea fans universally seem to be saying is the worst keeper they can ever remember playing for them?

They have stats for errors leading to goals.

They don't have stats for missing absolute sitters.

Attacking players get xG and if it's a bit shit, it gets excused because they are 'clearly getting in the right areas and it's only a better of time'.

(it was a howler though)

BUT David James and Rob Green had some moments and they were only 'A Thing' because they were shown regularly on T.V.

Now every mistake by a high profile goalkeeper is viewed by millions of people.

Perhaps it gets forgotten by the public like a 7-0 defeat?

Perhaps not.

You mean those idiots who fell for the 'Brighton's third choice GK' trope? Yeh, except he never was that - just de Zerbi's weird obsession with sweeper keepers.

I don’t want us to bail on our keeper, toughest job in the game for a start.

Sanchez and Anana both make more unforced errors than Bart yet are holding down jobs with bigger teams than us and Pickford when he was Bart’s age was never good enough to be an international

Every time one of our forwards skies one 20 feet over the bar or wide- its a bigger mistake than our keeper made last night it just doesn’t have the same effect on the score

It never seems to be about a specific keeper that people would sooner have on here… just get rid of Steele or get rid of Bart

League only.

Made two errors in 21 games last season. Sanchez made 5 in 21 games.

If he is this top keeper that you keep telling anyone who will listen that he is why has he been dropped at Chelsea also?
It’s not adding up.

Like most I expect, I swore and held my head in my hands with that dreadful error. However shit happens to all keepers and although he has made some howlers this season most have been passing out errors, not cocked up saves I think? I am happy with him in goal, he is young and he is learning on the job. He’ll keep improving imo. I am OUT of the witch hunt

I don’t know if it counted but he made one hell of a save late in the game, which, imo, made up for the error. He also seemed to get over the very early cock up, which is a big plus, and played OK for the rest of the game even though he didn’t have much to do. Passing out was fine. Just wish he’d stop being so slow at distribution after opposition attacks break down.

EPL is not only league around. And it will be interesting if Sanchez continues to play EPL in the future, I think he might get the odd game but I would be shocked if he has any EPL teams wanting him when Chelsea get rid, and I suspect they will get rid. Ryan is much older now but he's a safer pair hands than Sanchez that's for sure.
It’s not. But it’s one of the best leagues, if not the best league, in the world. And Sanchez has played there for the majority of his career as a first choice. And this isn’t a knock on Ryan, who I appreciated for what he was when he was here.

I’m not saying he isn’t immune to a mistake - all keepers are - but his ceiling his so much higher than Ryan’s. If it wasn’t, Ryan would still be our keeper today. He’s 32 afterall. Hardly old in goalkeeping terms.

Yes, it counted - strange his earlier mistake seemed to have blinded many to that cracking save - it was barely mentioned on the match thread. I also thought he recovered well - Sanchez used to sulk the rest of the game when he made errors.

My only minor grumbles with Bart is too many of his goal kicks are hoofed well into the final third and unnecessarily concedes possession giving teams an immediate opportunity to counter - and your second point - last night several times I thought he was too slow to pass out putting receiving FBs under unnecessary pressure.

No, your point is you’re blind to mounting questions justifiably being asked, just as Sanchez was / still is. Age has nothing to do with. Good enough old enough. Except he’s not PL good. Too many clangers. So let’s find someone who doesn’t gift as many whilst he practices in the reserves (if Steele available) or even elsewhere.
