I honestly don't think it was about his misses. Barnes was just an easy scapegoat. Nobody hated CMS and he cost 3million quid!!

In fact, it makes a rather interesting comparison, highlighted how fickle and strange football supporters are.
CMS cost a shit load and has rather unimpressed. Barnes did as much, if not more, in his Albion career, yet cost 22 oranges and a packet of hobnobs. Was much younger, and was playing in the Wiltshire Beagle Sunday League just months before.

YET, it's Barnes the fans jump on.

Maybe so, the only point I made was that he was called Barn Door Barnes because he (and CMS) missed chances. I didnt say he wasnt a good player, but just that we cant re write history. Some players do seem to divide opinion. Always the way in every club. "Back in the day" as the teenagers say, Dean Wilkins was one of them. A very good, skilful player in my view, the merciless whipping boy for dogs abuse for others! That's football.

He (and CMS) did miss a hatful of sitters at the Albion and those misses cost promotion. Whether you think its unfair or not, that's what people remember. We were inmy view, one player short of the premier league. That player was Murray. Poyet's / the Albions greatest mistake in recent year (well since this summer!).

If we have that Murray, I don't see him having made much of a difference to our promotion hopes under Poyet.

If we got the Murray who played in that middle season (only 2.5 shots needed for every goal) we'd also need our own versions of an on-form Zaha and bolasie causing mayhem on the wings, zipping balls into the box, which we didn't have. How many times did we play two wingers under Gus?

Yep I agree with allot of that but Murray also was good around the box and made intelligent runs. He also was a very good finisher a few years ago. I think he would have stuck away the chances that cms and barnes didnt. I think he would have made better runs and worked well with Poyets midfield. But we shall never know for sure. Its all ifs buts and maybes. Its a game of opinions as they say!

I agree completely, but posters on Nsc saw some dodgy video from a phone taken over 100 yards away, and knew that he had deliberately tripped the ref.

Always liked him in the team. He didn't get goals like that too often but contributed so much - first line of defence at the front which we don't have anymore and it shows

Correct. But my post was in reply to the statement that "Ashley Barnes is better than anyone at the club at the moment." I repeat, he is not as good a goal scorer as Bent.Yes Bent is a loanee, yes Barnes would die for the cause, but I know which one I would want in my team; that would be the one who's career averages nearly a goal ever other game.

I wonder how many will be saying similar about JFC when he's sold? He is a good midfielder as played by three managers and England U21, but it's fashionable to slate him.

Not for me i am afraid, not slating him, nothing against the lad, just that he does not deserve a starting place - others are more worth a starting slot - ok yesterday had a good game, england u21 not sure how, although maybe i will be proved wrong one day

He's scored one good goal and one mis hit in 17 or so prem games. Ok he's only been starting recently but he's hardly took the prem by storm. Good player and wish we still had him - just playing devils advocate. Not good enough for the prem as a regular player imo though..

I'd love it if Burnley stayed up. Sean Dyche comes across as a very grounded, yet passionate manager, they have no fancy dans in the squad, and if they stay up it increases the chances of Palace coming down.

Same here. My comment was nothing against them - they've not spunked loads on big names and are doing brilliantly..
