I don't dislike the word banter, but I do think it is now sometimes used to wrongly describe verbal abuse and possible bullying.
I reckon banter should contain elements of irony, humour and gentle piss-taking,often but not always amongst mates.
It has got a bit of a bad name now because 'thick as shit in a bottle' idiots and nasty smart arse types use the word to describe and justify whatever they say about anybody, regardless of the circumstances.

Good bantz there.

You're barking up the wrong tree here child. I guess you're of a generation where you hear that word alot, probably spoken by chavs and therefore find it a bit cringey. I have never spoken it and never written it and never heard any of my friends use it. I'm talking about what the word represents for the purposes of this thread. If we're JUST talking about the word then fine, it's a shit. Any type of txt speak is for morons.

This is exactly the type of person I'm talking about. Speccy looking academic, doesn't like groups of lads because he's never really fitted in, therefore feels he has to use his platform to tell everyone how much he hates it. It's pretty textbook behaviour actually, although the less intelligent of those types usually become coppers or traffic wardens and stewards if they're really thick.

It is a major part of football but do any other professions engage in banter as much as football?

I mean, do other industries set fire to people's suits or cut colleagues pants up? It's sometimes said 'he's great for the dressing room.'; do other fields employ staff and the side-step the issue they're useless and the fact they're also an annoying bell end with this excuse? Just wondering.

"Melt" is my new least favourite word. Just makes the person saying it sound like a tosser immediately.

isnt that a subway sandwich?

Firemen. Got a mate who does it so I get to hear alot of those stories.

Basically you could plot a graph, one axis of banter, one axis of testosterone and you'd get either a lovely clean upward curve or a straight diagonal line.

Isnt the setting fire to colleagues clothes a bit 'bad taste' in the fire brigade though?

"Banter " is just an excuse for a bunch of wet wipes who do not have the intelligence or wit to put their point across in a civilised manner or have the where with all to win any argument without resorting to insults and they then use the " banter " card. Many of these types of people can be found on here.

I think it's used as a catch-all term these days to describe virtually any mundane conversation between a groups of lads.

Remarkable how those that think loads of people take offence at anything seem to take so much offence at everything. I think you stating that if you don't like banter you don't have any friends is what got up people's noses. I like having a laugh with friends, call it banter if you like, I don't because banter is for wankers.

and here we have it, lol !

Yes we do.

maybe it's because sometimes you and your chums have nothing better to do than try and be the concscience of others, preaching how we should all interact with one another.

Get out in the real world Glover.

lol. xxx.

I still stand by that comment.

I'm basically trying to say what you're saying i.e about the whole laugh with friends thing, but I get the feeling that some people are interpreting it to mean outright abuse.

I'm not offended, just a reaction to some little twerp trying to mock me when I'm offerring a perfectly valid opinion.
