These ratings don't really prove anything much except that we all view the game very differently! For me, everything hinged on midfield where we were second best all day. Our passing throughout the side was generally dreadful. For all the talk about belief, there was clearly no confidence left against a side we'd have given a good game earlier in the season.
Scores on the doors:
Henderson 6 - no chance with the goal. Rarely called upon otherwise, but his kicking under pressure is a big bonus to the defence.
El Abd 4 - Unlucky to be booked. Aggression is one of his greatest assets so hard to do well after that. Good idea to switch him to the right, and eventually take him off.
McShane 7 - Albion's Man of the Match. As dominant as Shittu was for them and some quality touches under pressure.
Butters - 6. Just Butters. Big, slow, but really not sure how we'd cope without his calmness.
Hinsh 5 - Looks like he's been out a while. Not helped by having to switch to left back.
Frutos 5 - Disappointing. A lively threat going forward, but switches off defensively. 2 wingers are too much of a luxury for this team.
Hammond 5 - Could never get a grip on centre of midfield, although the central pairing are not helped by the wingers' defensive flaws.
Carpenter 5 - ditto. Like Hammond, looks weary. Not surprisingly.
Carole 5 - The odd trick. If only he'd beat players on the edge of the box rather than the half-way line.
Hart 6 - For effort.
Kazim-Richards 6 - Couldn't fault his work rate but he needs to do more talking with his feet and less with his gob. You're a big guy Colin, so don't hit the deck easily looking for fouls and try to stop giving away petty free-kicks. They're bad habits and just make the game all the more frustrating.
Subs:
Dodd 6 - A rusty start to be expected, but the quality of his passes into the channel showed what we've missed all season. Frustrating. He'd have been quality and would still be next year in League One... if his fitness is up to it?
Gatting 6 - made little impression, but nudges up from 5 for "forcing" the defender's mistake for the goal. Makes good runs.
Loft 5 - Oh dear. Let's hope his decent shot right at the death is more of an indicator of his ability than the rest of the performance. Looked lost. Needs time.
