[Albion] Away enders at SJP: did you realise Gordon had been sent off?

Yep. Given Taylor's utter aversion to booking the Newcastle players for almost anything yesterday, I was convinced that he was going to go after Joao Pedro for (completely unnecessarily) running halfway across the pitch to shove Gordon in that melee.
We also got very lucky with the referee’s leniency in fairness. Baleba probably should’ve gone for a second yellow. He was very fortunate indeed

Same here, and I had a good view watching on telly.

With Newcastle's chalked off injury time winner freshly in mind, my first thought was "this might be ruled out"...

VAR for offside is still complete shit.
Watching on the TV, I was immediately confident that Danny’s gem wouldstand
i was also convinced that Schar was offside from the start before there was a review.
Yes it is a bit tedious, but for me VAR worked yesterday.

The precise moment Gordon realised his cup final dreams had gone up in smoke:

Oh 100%. He was chasing that player back and we were thinking "don't foul him, don't foul him", and then he gave his shirt a little pull. That was a nerve-racking moment.

But Newcastle still got away with one or two that should have been yellows. Did they have anybody booked, excluding Gordon's red?

Only Big Joe Linton.

We really can't grumble though - as well as the leniency toward Baleba, Joao Pedro should have had one in the Gordon incident, and Jack Hinshelwood could have been carded three times!

(though the chief beneficiary of Taylor's largesse was Fabian Schar, who committed a couple of pretty bad ones, without censure. the one in the very last minute of added time, at the end of ET, was a cast iron yellow).

At first I thought he’d tried a delicate little dink and overcooked it and it had gone over the bar.

Was quite a weird technique for the ball to end up where it did and the surprise that it actually went in made it even sweeter.

Not sure the neighbours in the flat upstairs were quite so appreciative though!
That was exactly my initial thought as I watched it!

I think it's because the white ball momentarily got "lost" against the advertising hoarding and the trajectory of the ball seemed to be taking it over the bar. It was only as it hit the top of the (inside) of the net and fell down into the goal that it was clear what had happened - cue loss of limb control and involuntary guttural shouting!

Prior to Welbecks goal, there were a couple of shots we had in normal time that looked very close but were probably miles over. The height of the away end made it impossible to judge.

Welbecks goal took an absolute age to go in. My first thought was "Must be going over again" before it rippled the net. Best goal celebration for a while.

Not really the topic of conversation here, but listening on the radio I had no idea that Welbz had scored initially. It was met with such a lack of response from Aspinall and the other fella. It was only when Warren then was giddy with excitement over Tindall having his over-celebrations rubbed in his face that it was clear we'd scored a goal.

Desperately poor listening experience, but I was driving at the time and had no better option.

The JPVH attempted waist height headed tackle on Willock on the halfway line.....
How the actual f*** that wasn't deemed a bookable foul is beyond me.
Comical.
