[Albion] Away enders at SJP: did you realise Gordon had been sent off?

Never seen anything like it. May not have been apparent on TV, but from where I was sat, nobody in the away end had a bloody clue he'd been sent off. Normally, an opponent being sent off is met with loud cheers and mockery, but not in this case, because we were all completely in the dark. You're so far away up there in the gods at SJP, you genuinely can't see stuff. Gordon walked off the pitch and it was barely noticed. I and all those around me thought he'd been subbed (possibly to avoid him getting booked). The first we knew anything different was when people started getting BBC notifications or messages from mates about the red card

Absolute scenes.

Strange. Watching on TV, I wondered why the sending off greeted with silence.

No. Even when he walked over to the bench we were wondering as it looked like he might have been taking instructions………..it was only when he went down the tunnel it became obvious

Mind you, I missed the emotion of the winning goal as well: I was convinced it was offside and was going to be overturned by VAR.

Same here, and I had a good view watching on telly.

With Newcastle's chalked off injury time winner freshly in mind, my first thought was "this might be ruled out"...

VAR for offside is still complete shit.

Same. Jumped around the sitting room but with that nagging feeling that it might not count.

I find it genuinely astonishing how bringing in a system that was supposed to improve the game has managed to search and destroy the single thing that makes football the greatest sport of them all with such pinpoint accuracy.

I thought the same from the outskirts of Jupiter in the ground, but messaged Junior who said it was miles on…..

No, I didn’t either until he walked off and neither did people around me. It was a bit disappointing not being able to wave him goodbye. Mind you, I missed the emotion of the winning goal as well: I was convinced it was offside and was going to be overturned by VAR.
Same on the telly. 100% convinced he was offside, and then I thought he had sliced it into the side netting anyway. So just sort of sat there and then enjoyed the dawning realisation that this was actually a goal!

How they get away with putting away fans up there is scandalous

You have seen Anthony Gordon's face right? Keeping visting fans at a distance where his features are indistinguishable is humane treatment.....children would be permantanly mentally scarred otherwise.

Why didn’t the ref clearly show the red card?
Watching at home, the ref got his red card out and had it in his hand for a while as he advanced towards where the incident took place. In the melee after the foul an Albion player shoved Gordon in the chest....I thought the red was this.

I thought the same. I had seen the red card in the ref’s hand and my heart was sinking. Then I laughed when I realised it was for Gordon.
