Just had home made cottage pie with peas on a very autumnal evening; cosy and yummy.

What other suitably Autumnal dinners are there?

As a vegetarian, I'm largely against risotto as a mushroom risotto, sometimes crazily prefixed with the word "wild", is a default veggie offering in so many places.

However, I was* going to make a butternut squash risotto today as it feels suitably warming and hearty on such a day.

(* - I didn't actually make one, as I had some veg that needed to be used, so I made a Thai green curry instead. The risotto may come tomorrow.)

I love sweetbreads at this time of year with some Ale gravy.

Fried liver and bacon with boiled potatoes and veg with thick liver gravy. I go against the majority and prefer either Ox Liver or Pigs Liver as it is stronger than Lambs or calves.

Good timing, this thread's prompted me to defrost the kilo pack of oxtail that I picked up last week. MASSIVE stew tomorrow with dumplings, pearl barley, root veg, celery and the think end of a bottle of malbec.
Hell yeah.

Did a venison casserole in the slow cooker yesterday - browned chunks of meat, then added a load of sauteed chopped carrots and onions, lots of chopped rosemary, minced garlic, 500 ml each of stock and red wine and some tomato puree and left it on low heat for 12 hours. Served with garlic and chive mash and veg. Very good it was

This was nice the other week: schnitzel, mash and gravy from the local cafe.

Cottage pie is a winner.
I do a roasted veg dish. Potatoes, side sliced broccoli stalks, carrots, onion, garlic, mushrooms (but use any you particularly like).
Par boil spuds. Cube the veg and par boil. Fry off garlic (whole clove segments), onions and mushrooms in a little oil.
Put all the ingredients into a deep baking tray, add cumin, chilli powder, ceyenne pepper, salt, pepper and mustard pepper.
Slow roast on 150 for an hour.
Serve with cauliflower cheese.
Warming and hearty.
In fact I'm doing it tonight.
