When you say 'old version', how old are you talking? I loved it in the 80s.

Went there in the early days late 70’s, early 80’s, queuing up after pubs closed, Al Duomo and Al Forno had similar great food. Also Al Caminetto? in Queens Road.

Al Duomo went down hill over years especially pre COVID.

The new menu/new owners? I guess have been there last 18 months, it took ages to reopen post COVID.

Al Forno was great, I loved eating there. I was only young but the memories are of very good food

You had me going when you mentioned the Rossini, as since the demise of Piero's and La Piazza, I cant find anywhere that even offers Rossini, let alone one to 'die for'.
However, looking at the current menu at La Galleria, it's no longer there.
Is there anywhere at all in the area that offers it?

Oh bloody hell. I've not been there for about a year, but that was always my go-to when I did. Most expensive thing on the menu (around £25), but worth every penny on a special occasion.

I was there the night of the McShane Palace 1-0 (for my nephews 21st birthday), which just made the evening even more brilliant. Gutted my fave dish has gone the same way of Worcester flavoured crisps, Brannigans Lamb & Mint, and Rolf's Cartoon Club.

All my favourite things get cancelled.

I swear 25-30 years ago, absolutely everybody did a steak Rossini and it was always one of my favourites. I even used to knock up a fair one at home. But I have to admit that over the years it has become a bit rich, even for me. I last had one a good few months ago at home, with a very small fillet and Pate and mushrooms rather than foie gras and truffles.

And I quite like the idea that Tournedos Rossini was one of the reasons behind his early retirement

Cramped, a cacophony of noise from Chantelle’s birthday or hen party celebrations, rush you in and out, and going by Italian clients who know their food …. a cheapskate version of what real Italian cooking you can get in this city.

But my Dad always liked it, he loved the very low bottom line to the bill.

Got loads of BHA connections, family have been good to the club over the years and just had a tragedy as well.

Unfortunately, despite that, every time I’ve been there the food’s been crap. Under flavoured, under seasoned, cheap ingredients in my opinion. Might have got better in the last few years as I’ve not been since the time the obviously microwaved lasagne had at least three different internal temperatures

That's the traditional Italian way of microwaving things.

It’s not in B&H, but La Galleria in Shoreham comes close if you don’t mind travelling out a bit. Few pints in the Duke of Wellington first then 5 minute walk to LG.

It very recently received a 0 on scores on the doors. Shame as I never had a bad meal there but wife won't entertain the idea of returning until a better score has been awarded.

(I believe the owners are of Albanian descent not Turkish/Persian as some have suggested)

To be honest, we have enough pizza, pasta etc. for meals at home.
If I go out for a meal, it is anything but Italian.

Was thinking the same recently, there are a lot of average Italian restaurants but struggle to beat Donatello/Pinocchio for value and range of dishes. Tried Casalingo last week and have to say was disappointed with the food and it was expensive for what we got. One low key I a lot like is Amici on Blatchington road. Morelli Zorelli has the best pizza in the city.

I will look out for those next time, thanks. How come Walkers ditched their (purple packet) Worcester Sauce crisps though ? They were OUTSTANDING.
