You have to judge most teams in the context of the same team. You wouldn’t judge Brighton against Man United and say they’re a failure. Same with Newcastle. I also wouldn’t say 2nd place is a failure or a club like Newcastle. They have achieved their greatest success in the past 100 years with an attack minded approach.

I don't believe there's a single Geordie alive who preferred Rafa's pragmatic necessity under Ashley to THAT season under Keegan. They may not have won the league but they haven't seen the like of that football or table position ever again.

Correct, but the facts are they won nothing.
And I bet if you spoke to the Geordies, they would also prefer a slightly tighter defence that would have seen them win the league.

I think we have, fundamentally, a different outlook. In sport, I’d much rather try something, and fail, than not try at all. Not trying is dull. And not trying isn’t competitive....which is the whole point of sport in my mind.

I didn’t watch today so can’t comment on his performance
Could he grow into the position or will that idea be binned off straight away?

Nope I am going to enjoy us trying to win games in a bit of style rather than trying not to lose them. It may go pear shaped but I’ll worry about it when it happens. I actually ENJOYED watching us today.

Isn’t he an England U18 midfield player, so would be surprised if he did. Pace isn’t his strongest asset
