I believe Bruno went from central midfield to right back

Not when he played at Valencia, not saying you’re wrong, just wondered at what stage of his career.

Sanders is not a right back and struggled a little pace wise

All valid points, but I want the vital point.

Heavy defeats are draining and demoralising, there are no positives for me.

Multiple consecutive defeats with no goals and no likelihood of one are even more demoralising-for players and supporters alike.

And they won what?

They lost out to a Utd team with a solid defence

You have to judge most teams in the context of the same team. You wouldn’t judge Brighton against Man United and say they’re a failure. Same with Newcastle. I also wouldn’t say 2nd place is a failure or a club like Newcastle. They have achieved their greatest success in the past 100 years with an attack minded approach.

He played a handful of games for us in Cm under Garcia or possibly Hyypia. He has always been a right back.

You must have been in heaven after the Bristol Rovers 2-8 home defeat.

Unfortunately zero points are given for entertainment.

That was a cracking day - I played a dreadful round of golf that morning and the football was meant to improve my mood!

But clearly they weren’t defensive, so sorry I’m not getting your point.

They were offensive which is the precise reason they failed champions league wise and reinforces my point IMO.

Please re-read my original post and what I quoted regarding defence.

Yes I recall him doing that for us, wasn’t sure whether he’d played there prior to Valencia

I don't believe there's a single Geordie alive who preferred Rafa's pragmatic necessity under Ashley to THAT season under Keegan. They may not have won the league but they haven't seen the like of that football or table position ever again.

Correct, but the facts are they won nothing.
And I bet if you spoke to the Geordies, they would also prefer a slightly tighter defence that would have seen them win the league.

Are we going to spend this early pre season believing their are only 2 types of football performance possible (it’s that simple - yeah ?) with one manager favouring one and one manager the other.
“Attacking” - lots of goals, no points - result: happiness
“Defensive” - no goals, no points either result: misery.
We are, aren’t we ?

I think we have, fundamentally, a different outlook. In sport, I’d much rather try something, and fail, than not try at all. Not trying is dull. And not trying isn’t competitive....which is the whole point of sport in my mind.

Nope I am going to enjoy us trying to win games in a bit of style rather than trying not to lose them. It may go pear shaped but I’ll worry about it when it happens. I actually ENJOYED watching us today.

I didn’t watch today so can’t comment on his performance
Could he grow into the position or will that idea be binned off straight away?

Isn’t he an England U18 midfield player, so would be surprised if he did. Pace isn’t his strongest asset

No, winning and in our case surviving is the objective.

We must be very different [emoji2][emoji106]

Sacrifice a bit at the back?

Yes and as per my response, teams are built from the back, so I’m out [emoji2]........

Followed by the subsequent posts both from myself and others trying to explain the benefits of not having to be defensive first but still win games, hence my Arsenal analogy from last season. Crap at the back, won more than they lost.

It’s not our objective, it’s yours. I want to see some entertainment. I will not care too much if we are relegated.
