I’m at the ‘G’ at the moment watching Hawthorn getting hammered by Melbourne.
I was earlier at the North Melbourne game watching them blow a decent first half lead against Fremantle.

For anyone looking to choose a team my advice would be to adopt North Melbourne who play in blue and white vertical stripes and usually begin as underdogs. Apparently they are a young side that will be decent in about three years time.

To be fair North have been saying this for a long time. I think Hawthorn are more likely to come good in the next few years. They have an irritating habit of working the system well, getting good draft picks and then progressing to win flag, can't stand them myself but they do it well.

Geelong are an interesting team as we continue to attempt to avoid the bottoming out for draft picks by trying to recruit well every year (often by bring back local players who have been drafted elsewhere).and stay competitive year after year.

Similar to Brighton our recruiting model is lauded over here. Although in a culture where winning grand finals is the only measure of success I feel like our time at the top of the game has been disappointing with only one flag in the last 10 years.

Having said that being able to watch a quality team year after year should not be overlooked in terms of entertainment.

Yes mate, incredible place to watch sport.

Edit: except football as the pitch is too small and your too far away. I am hopefully going to see Spurs/Newcastle in May.

I see my adopted team, St Kilda, beat Collingwood the other day. That's good, isn't it ?
Good for everyone except Collingwood fans.

Not managed to see much AFL at all over the weekend as I was so busy. Will have to catch up this week!

If anyone is interested in watching the game locally, Sussex Swans are growing fast, and the season is just about to start. They're having a family fun day on April 14 in Preston Park too, where kids can give the game a go etc. Also going to be BBQs and music etc. so should be a good day....if the weather plays ball.

Would love to get along to games myself, but playing baseball over the summer kinda clashes!

Surprised about the ease of trains thing tho. Jolimont station looked to me to be pretty much the equivalent of Falmer station, with all the logistical limitations that that entails. Do they somehow manage to conjure up huge amounts of train capacity on matchdays?

I'm not familiar with the trains in Melbourne, but elsewhere in the country the trains are normally double-decker. So for any given length of platform, you're actually looking at significantly more passenger capacity than here in the UK.

No double-decker trains in Melbourne. I found them quite a novelty in Sydney!
