Good article on the Pies crusis going into a rematch of the Grand Final v Brisbane

Should be one helluva match, especially seeing how Brisbane are also 0-3. Carna Pies!
I'm all set for my morning of AFL footy in front of the telly here in sunny Bognor.
It promises to be an intriguing game at The Gabba.

I guess you are still suffering from jet lag.
Hope you had a great time in the land of Downunder🦘🦘

I've been living over here in Western Australia for 18 yrs now... in WA the only 2 teams are Fremantle and West Coast Eagles - there was no way I was going to follow a team with Eagles in the name. Case Closed.
My man  I was vaguely aware of Aussie rules from watching it on Transworld Sport (which would be, er, quite a different concept and programme if it were on today) when i was a nipper, but i only really remember mullets, sunshine, tiny shorts, and the teams who played with a sash looking awesome. I was somehow already aware that Collingwood weren't to be trusted though (sorry pies fans!)
then i flew over to Oz in 1999 for a couple of years on a working visa or two, and flew into Perth- i saw the game on tv for the first time in about a decade, quite fancied it as a spectacle, and found out that there were two WA teams. I had the briefest of looks into their respective histories, realised that Freo were a working class underdog and West Coast a bunch of stuck up, chardonnay swilling, drug cheat shitbags, and i had the easiest choice to make :)
They lost the first game i went to (and i've also hated Port Adelaide from that day) but i've been following them ever since, despite them mostly being crap. Initially it was logging onto the afl.com.au website once a week to confirm how many we lost by, and i'm overjoyed that TNT show basically all the games now, so i can get right back into the trials and tribulations of the mighty purple. And i love the game as a neutral, watching other sides, and the climb up and down the ladder via the draft system.
A decade ago the Melbourne Demons were a hilarious sham of a club, losing by 60 points every week and barely getting a kick, and now they're a solid side, had loads of finals appearances, and won a great grand final as well. Plus the Lions and the Pies being last year's grand finalists, and both sitting at 0-3 now - its just nice to expect things to change every year, its not a decade of metronomic brilliance from Man City murdering absolutely everyone. Basically whichever club you pick, you're going to get some good times in the near and not so near future. (apart from West Coast Eagles of course, who are a bunch of arseholes)

Phew! Slightly nervy 20 point win on the board for Pies. Kicked on in Q4 - which seemed about twice as long as the other quarters. Carna Pies!

Was over in Aus last July/Aug - got a ticket for Essendon - West Coast at the Marvel Stadium. Really exciting game, although the Bombers fans in front of us said it's one of the worst games you'll see all season. Ended 74-73, but low on quality apparently!

Really enjoyed watching the local matches on the Sunday over on Albert Pk, realising this is like their version of Hackney Marshes.

After Melbourne we flew to Perth to see our cousins, in time to see West Coast get smashed by the Dockers in their derby.

Good win for the catters again today. Anyone watch?

The game was stopped for 40 minutes due to lightning at the MCG.

Its a bit wet over here at the moment.

Carlton here, family allegiance. Any ground where you arrive to be asked 'drinking or non drinking' at the seat allocation has to be good.

Things don't get easier for the mighty Dockers, after being HIDEOUSLY ROBBED last week vs Carlton we have to go away to Port Adelaide. Don't much fancy us there, but if we're 3-2 after five rounds i think i'd have snapped someone's hands off for that before the start of the season to be fair. Then we have West Coast, followed by a bye - to be fair thats really just two bye rounds  - and a chance to look at cementing a spot in the finals for the year.

Pies scraped home to a 5 point win v Hawthorn last week despite looking to be cruising at half time. Two wins under the belt now, but still seriously misfiring it seems

Yeah, i watched the second half so missed the dominance, but it should be a bit worrying seeing Hawthorn have that much of a comeback - they're absolutely rancid. I think the Pies have dropped off a bit from the last two seasons - whereas they were all action, combative and with seemingly 2-3 options for everyone on the ball, now they're a bit more static. But they've won a flag, they just don't have the same incentive now they've actually gone and won it! They'll settle, and i think be somewhere from 6-12. Everyone wants to knock the pies off anyways, and even more so when they're reigning premiers. Could be a tricky season but they still have a good set of players

I read that Pies have the highest average player age in the league, could be partially something to with that. Certainly a few of the more senior players are having a bit of a rusty start

We must have a happy THPP this morning after Collingwood's brilliant fightback to demolish Port Adelaide.

My newly chosen Brighton lookalikes North Melbourne are joint bottom of the table with Hawthorn with 0 points after five games.
Tomorrow is the battle of the basement. I think this might be a challenging relationship between me and the Kangaroos.
Come on North!

It's a big night for live sport in Perth, WA. In the Super Rugby, Western Force will play the Crusaders, and then the big derby in the AFL, Eagles vs Dockers. Hopefully Fremantle keep up their derby winning streak and ensure the Eagles' sole victory of the season last week was an anomaly.

We did indeed - despite the horrible middle of the night start time. 04.45am FFS! Pies got off to a sluggish start in Q1 but then mounted a massive surge in Q2. Pretty comfortable after that. They look to have finally regained some of their sharpness after that sloppy and lethargic 0-3 start to the season. Carna Pies!

Meanwhile my Albion lookalike North Melbourne are getting killed by the equally winless and crap Hawthorn.
Any idea when North Melbourne might actually win a game?
Come on the Roos!
