Actually I think it's fair enough. It's almost guaranteed the trains will be up shit creek tomorrow in any case may as well try and plan around it now rather than it being a disorganised mess tomorrow.

Fair enough to plan and publish those plans but only implement them if the thing you're planning around happens !

Can't really see where the train company can be blamed here.

It snows, we criticise them saying "well they knew it was going to happen"

This time they do something, in advance and we criticise them saying "but it might not happen".

It's hardly a MASSIVE change in schedule. I'll be 30 mins later than normal. I've told work. Job done.

Just a little more info into the reasoning why a revised timetable will be in place , there will be no coupling of trains to make longer car services that carry on to to london at certain stations , eg lewes , this i presume is to do with the fact that in 2010 the couplers themselves were full of snow and ice therefore when the trains were trying to couple they could'nt , causing more delays , the 377s are now fitted with heated couplers which come into play in icy weather but shit happens and if its really bad i can see why southern have taken this action .

One of the very few saving graces of First Capital Connect's shitty little tin boxes is that they seem to trundle along quite happily in the snow, flashing and sparking like a dodgy Xmas tree, long after the proper Southern trains have shown the white flag to 'adverse weather conditions'.

Showing South West Trains only - are Southern also running one then ?

Also since your in the know, this will probably carry on until Saturday, would Advance tickets be valid on all good routes ?

Advance tickets tomorrow are valid for the train before or the train after if your booked train doesn't run so would imagine that would be the case for Saturday if an emergency timetable is in operation

Trouble is half the capital connect trains are now the old 'proper' southern ones that fall over at the first sign of a snowflake! I fully expect train carnage by midday tomorrow.

Well I reckon this is an eminently sensible decision by Southern. The whole east/west coast train splitting thing at H.Heath is great when things are running smoothly, but creates a mess when there are problems. Often the problem is that staff get displaced as delays build up and the knock on effect is more delays. This means they can manage with less train staff, which should mean they can better respond to problems. We will see - it looks like I need to be in London tomorrow morning.

Midday good shout

I reckon at least 30 min delays on all journeys by 10 am then cancellations shortly after . This is optimistic

Should be fine then, if the emergency timetable carries on until Saturday, which it probably will, then the train is an hour before, should probably be alright then.

Any word on if the work this weekend is going ahead ?
