What follows is not a west upper v north dig, as 9/10 games the north leads the singing, but today was indicative of the divide in the north.
A lot of stick gets directed at the west upper but today it was much better than usual up top. I sit at the back of WSU G where we have a fair few trying to start songs that often tail out, but today the north half in particular of the WSU was united and loud. The north stand meanwhile, the apparent bastion of noise, is too busy competing within itself to "lead" the atmosphere.
The NE half and police box lot have spent 18 months competing to be the leaders - having sat in both areas during cup matches it is BOLLOCKS that you can't hear the other side - you can.
As I say we try in WSU but noise doesn't seem to travel downwards from up there, and if you think getting 3000 in the north singing in unison is hard, try 14000 in the west.
I'm sorry but many champion the north as the "singing" stand - there needs to be unity there beyond any other place in the stadium or it all falls to sh!t. The simple fact is unless the north unites, the rest of the stadium can't/won't. That isn't a "my stand is better than your stand" argument, but just a fact- in the west there are 4/5x more fans trying (at the best of times) 4/5 different songs which all conflict. If the north leads, the rest willingly follow.
If you lot stopped competing with each other in a desperate attempt to be "better" fans, and actually united as one, the whole stadium would be louder and prouder.
Get together in the middle and make the amex the best it could be.

The north is only a half empty stand these days. What does anyone expect. Still I thought the atmos was decent and certainly better than anything Charlton could dish up.
Charlton fans overheard on the train thought it was impressive, allowing for the way the game went. They scored their second at a rather awkward time.
I think it could be better though. It is not as good as the second half of the last season at the Goldstone.

Indeed, the north should be leading things........get on with it.Ah you're in the bit if the north that's mysteriously gone quiet since start of last season. You really need to up your game (rather than complaining on here)

All this willy waving is ridiculous. I've say for two years in WSU and moved this year to the back of N1A.
Last year at times the atmosphere in WSU was non existent - but when everyone got going it was superb. However it really does depend on who is sitting around you and the noise they make.
From where I am, the atmosphere in the north West is cracking and is more vocal. However yesterday we couldn't hear much of the rest of the stadium probably because we were too busy singing most of the game!

1) In Europe they are not hassled by stewards every two mins, they are allowed to generate atmosphere.
2) British football fans invented loud and varied songs at football.
3) Part of the problem is that the yoof of today have absolutely no imagination, singing multiple versions of lyrics to a base Sloop John B tune, just doesn't cut it......

Thought it was average, same as it always is, and pretty pitiful for the size of the home support. Can't see it ever changing into a Cauldron Of Noise. It is what it is
Tend to agree, I said to my mate next to me, Do the away supporters not come to home matches!. Made far more noise at swindon!.
This needs to be put right!..
p.s I found it Embarrassing when our sound system kept cutting our during the pre-match good ol Sussex by the sea music was being played!.
At least most of the supporters joined in to compensate!. But we should be singing like that during the game!.

Yup. Were some right Charlton ********s on the train and in the WSL. They completely bottled it when I fronted one group who were abusing people in the concourse.

I sit at the back of the left side of G in WSU so probably quite near you and can confirm it was great yesterday. My throat hurts this morning and so does my lads (probably because he had an additional mini meltdown at the ref!). However I have noticed then when it gets good in the WSU it's the old songs from the Goldstone that really get it going, probably because of how many aging faces there are in there from back in the day.
In the North it seems to be a competition between reinventing even older songs and making up entirely new ones. Rather than trying to be clever I do wish the two or more groups in there would come together to sing something simple and well known together. If you do that the noise level will go up, everyone will have a better time and the players will feel supported. Having a 'who's got the best song' competition is just proving you're the latest incarnation of Krispies.

Agreed. Have to say that those muppets up the road are allowed to be football fans by their club. Funny that they've decided to react to this by going all euro trash but hey ho.
Until our club clears out some of the arrogant ego driven morons that control such things (yes that's you Chris Baker) then we'll really struggle to get the place rocking.
That said I still think yesterday was pretty good despite stewards repeatedly telling people to sit.
