Why, because of the steepness?
It’s hardly steep

Sure - I was responding to a post that stated 'Horrible City', rather than specifically the area around Villa Park.
I know, I just tend to assume that people who make these sweeping statements about cities being shitholes are basing it on one or two visits to a football ground where they arrived, walked through an industrial estate to the ground, watched a depressing Brighton performance, and then walked straight back to their car/train station.

In that context, I can understand somebody thinking that about Birmingham. Not if they've actually spent any time there.

Because of the lack of alcohol? 90mins can be a long time.

Seriously though, I got something approaching vertigo last time I was in the upper tier at Villa Park. Something to do with the way the roof comes down to my eyeline seemed to freak out my brain for some reason.

And then, you know. I got over it. :lolol:

No, Newcastle's fine. It's not being high or the gradient that does it, I think it's the way the roof at Villa Park seems to be hanging in space about 20m ahead, but at the same time also about 40m up in the air, that weirds me out [distances completely made up, obviously]. Probably wouldn't happen if I were stood in a slightly different row.

It's like my brain can't quite get around how I'm on solid ground while something right in front of me is so far up in the air.

This isn't a big deal, to be clear. It's fine after a few seconds.

To be fair I didn't need to see anymore of Stoke on Trent than that to see it was a shit-hole. And we beat Port Vale that day too.

Fancy a laugh? Look up reviews of The Crown Hotel in Longton. It's where I stayed when we played a midweek cup game against Stoke a couple of seasons ago. 336 reviews on Trip Advisor, 208 of them "Terrible". :lolol:

And yet, despite having been to Stoke two seasons in a row for FA Cup matches, I'd still rather go there* again than Southampton.

*To Stoke in general, not the Crown Hotel specifically. I wouldn't go back there if they paid me.
