[Albion] Assault in away end

I was a few rows in front of this. Didn’t see the assault sadly or I’d be glad to help, but the aftermath was shocking enough. Youngish chap with a bloodied nose, a still raging dad being pushed away by his clearly distraught son. Funnily enough I’d been standing on the same bus with them on the way to the stadium. Dad and son were clearly very drunk and I thank god that I didn’t have reason to get in his way then and offend him perhaps. I’d recognise them again for absolute certainty.

Interestingly I saw the stewards being told and the steward making the action of a headbutt to another possibly more senior steward. I assumed therefore they were dealing with him and as a minimum kicking him out. Disappointed to hear he came back in.

As an aside and Bozza touched on this, where were the stewards generally? I saw a few early on stopping our fans from gesticulating at the fence but nothing after that. None in the concourse for broom gate fun.

I’m probably an old duffer for saying this but too many men of a certain age drunk more than they should have done. It gave me England away vibes when plenty end up missing the game because they can barely stand up! Odd behaviour to so clearly not know your limits.

I’m fearing it will be even worse in Amsterdam.

Not something I would ever have expected to read about, and it saddens me that such an idiot follows the Albion.

In the cold light of day and when sobered up, you would like to think that the idiot has remorse for his actions and gets in contact with the club to confess his actions. However given the assault and aftermath I have zero expectation of this happening.

With the evidence provided, hopefully this idiot can be quickly identified by the Club and Police and appropriate action taken swiftly.

Sins of the Father... I feel sorry for the lad in all of this. Glad that he tried to reason with his Dad by the sound of things instead of (as often happens) joining in.

I worked with someone a long time ago who got punched in the back of the head at a West Ham game by one of their own fans (he's a West Ham supporter). The guy was 5 foot nothing and probably 65kgs wet. The reason for being punched? He happened to say that it was a rubbish performance as he was leaving (they'd just lost) and out off nowhere, a fist to the back of the head.

We seem to live in very violent times at the moment... people lashing out at anything that slightly upsets them.

I am not defending the attackers actions, merely point out the steward possibly only let him stay, because he was so drunk and may have saved the bloke from a serious kicking, and he was by circumstance somewhat lucky.

They don't need to prosecute, they have the right to ban him from the ground if they believe they have enough evidence. They may well be seeking CCTV footage from Marseille.

I'd imagine at least asking Marseille the question about CCTV would be a certainty as part of any enquiry process

Nothing to stop the victims of the assault suing the attacker in a civil action, especially if they’ve had to incur costs for treatment, suffered loss of earnings, had to change plans etc., or even just to claim compensation and damages for spoiling their trip. Maybe not the sort of thing they’d want to do on their own but there must be lawyers and other specialists here who could assist, and we could have a whip-round to cover costs. I’d contribute.

What classes as public matters though. The Amex is probably not, given its privately owned stadium. Most people generally don’t care too much if they are caught in incidental photos (I.e cheering crowd shots etc) but in an instance where a clear picture of someone is posted then you’d probably get asked to take it down if that person was upset about it, but if you refused they might have grounds to go further.
