The defender grabbed at and pulled Youngs arm so therefore a penalty. It was good to see that the ref had the ball to give it, it is a pity more dont have.

He gave it to compensate for bottling the earlier one for the foul on Kagawa.

Ashley Young is a cheat, always has been and probably always will be. Last night was no exception, and if you HONESTLY think that was anything other than a ridiculous dive then you need your eyes testing.

He definitely dived, but it was a penalty. The guy clearly pulled his arm in the box. If he hadn't gone down he wouldn't have got the penalty, but he would have been given a free-kick if the guy had pulled his arm outside the box & he hadn't gone down. I was always taught that a foul in the box is a penalty, but the reality is that if you don't go down in the penalty area you don't get a penalty. In some ways I don't blame him, but it does his reputation no good.

Cheats never prosper, he is a fecking diving cheat

Ashley could certainly learn a thin or two from our own champion diver

Barely any contact - its so bad its laughable - but the ref gave it to make up for his earlier poor decision.

Awful, absolutely awful.

Enough contact though, would be a free kick anywhere else on the pitch so penalty was the correct decision.

Young has lost his way but he's a top player, don't understand why everyone is knocking one of our own.

On that basis, if i was to poke a player in the box (leave the innuendo) - he is entitled to go down like he has been shot because there was contact.

And that's half the problem - there were a couple of examples this weekend of exactly that - the players were 'honest' enough to stay on their feet and nothing was given despite contact clearly being made.

Ashley Young will be disappointed that he only got a 8.5 on the Zaha-ometer

the ref gave it to make up for his earlier poor decision.

This is something I struggle with, in that although I agree that this is probably true I don't think that it was "awful". The ref is given a split second to make a decision, and if he reflects on a decision and decides that he has made a mistake I can see him wanting to rectify it later on down the line. Think that a good example of this is our game against Burnley when the goalie was sent off after that second yellow, when he should have been shown a red first time around.

Refs using context happens up to a point already: a defender who keeps giving away minor fouls will eventually receive a yellow, even though none of the individual fouls might warrant one. Should refs use this principal to referee the entire game or should they walk away from the major decisions once made and move on, even if they know that they were wrong?

There was a touch. But at 99% of corners, there is far more contact that this between every single player in the box. The fact that their hands touch has nothing at all to do with the way Ashley Young's legs gave way underneath him.

You need to get your eyes tested asap. Cashley thoroughly conned the Ref yet again.

Deary me.

Ref totally conned, Ashley Young should be ashamed of himself. Would he go down as easily if someone brushed past him in the street?
I just hope that Young and Zaha are never in the same eleven, it would be like watching synchronised diving in the Olympics.
