He is your most clinical striker and should be the focal point of your team. In reality, if you're looking to challenge towards the top 6 you'll need to be looking for someone to play up top alongside him, with CMS making way on the bench. I can honestly see his best role being an impact sub as other than pace, he doesn't really have the game to fire you towards the top of the table. Barnes however has shown he is a good finisher, and at his age I can see him getting better this season.

This is the sort of contribution from an away fan that almost justifies having to put up with the palace monkeys

How many of those were penalties?

Not relevant, they're all goals (unless you're thinking of the season before last when converted penalties were like goal dust?)

Ashley Barnes is developing into a quality forward. Scored 14 goals last season despite playing most it out of position. 20 the season before, what does this lad have to do to get a break with some people on here? Gus believes in him otherwise he wouldn't get game time. That is good enough for me.

This how can people moan when he was our top scorer last season

It wasn't Barnes that made way for Vokes, was it? He's the kiddie. Not much sign of anyone else coming in yet, we'll have to sign someone very good to even think of dropping him.

And all his pens are to the left, so predictable now. If any decent keeper does their home work then he'll miss more than he scores. Palace keeper went the right way and nearly saved it. watch it and he didn't smash it either.

The Reading pen wasn't missed, it was a good save. And he puts a lot of his pens in the top corner, like again Pepe Reina for example - who exactly is saving a top corner penalty?

You don't like Barnes, which is a shame as he's had a very good couple of seasons now and I see no reason that should stop.

Another person needlessly trying to criticize Barnes, nice one.

And how many other times did he find the top corner?

Joe Hart knew which way Balotelli places the ball and that didn't help. If it is a decent strike, then a penalty should be scored 9 times out of 10, as Ashley proved last season. The Palace keeper 'nearly' saving it does not count because he DIDN'T. Ashley's worst strike was the pen against Reading and he paid the price.

The one time he wasn't on the pitch to take the penalty was against Millwall away and look what happened.

Every team needs a scapegoat it seems. Its a shame really, 21 year old strikers that score at a rate of 1 in 3 are rare.
