I had money on Barnes to be top scorer in the League last year. In the end he was nowhere near but 20 goals was a seriously impressive return. haven't had the same bet this year, but reckon he'll keep scoring - but Hoskins will be a problem for him. Gus has shown that he will put Barnes on the bench.

I think that one thing gets missed a lot in conversations about Barnes: Yes he misses opportunities, but he is almost always in the right positions and positional sense is not something that comes at an early age. His clinical finishing will come in time as long as he is in the right place, which he invariably is.

Personaly, I am a massive fan of Barnes, but his overall game this season has not been spectacular. In fact, he was poor against Gillingham and Donny. However, he a developing player. How good was CMS at 21?

f***ing hell, calm down people. He played well tonight, and scored a cracking first goal.

I'm not going to slag him off like I did last year, as if nothing else, he does seem to have upped his work rate this year, but imo he is still looking well short of the others, and CMS is in a completely different class. His first touch is still poor, stills goes down far to obviosuly and easily.

Three from four looks great, and is, but two of them have been pens (maybe if CMS was there against Gillingham and not with Scotland) CMS would have three goals, and AShley would have scored his first of the season tonight. Can't make a accurte comment on tonights pen from the angle we were at, but it didn't look bottom corner to me, and the one against Gillingham was perfect for the keeper if he had gone the right way as well.

So fair play to Ashley's start, and I f***ing hope it continues, but lets not carried away after 4 games because take away the pens, he's scored one cracker in four, and looked average in the other three.......

CMS on the other hand..... f***ing hell. Give me three of him up front, and we'll have teams refusing to play us and handing us the points!!! What a player!!!

Agree or disagree, I really don't care, but try and discuss it without ****ing me off, or I'll just **** you start back, but that's my opinion and I'm not going to change it because he had one good game, and I KNOW I am not alone!!

Your not alone at all Mr Burns, one swallow does not make a summer...We are three games in ffs and CMS looks different class and only has one to his name, which is what Barnes would have if he didn't take pens and has played one more game...Who missed from five yards on Saturday before CMS instinctivley tapped it in????????

Interesting and I tend to agree although the two neutrals I was with at the Gills game rated his performance somewhat higher, in respect of his link play with Buckley and Noone.. I think he has lots of promise, was an absolute bargain and could be a very good player, but we'll see what the rest of the season has in store..

Who made space for his own excellent shooting chance which was well saved before it fell to CMS?

Clueless

So as long as you make the space, its perfectly acceptable to squander the chance in your view?.....and you say im clueless.....Ive been watching Albion strikers for over 30 years my friend and I tell you now Ashley Barnes is an average striker, nothing more, nothing less at this moment in time...thats not to say he wont go on to be a great striker in time but that is further away atm than most on here would have you belive....I bet Hoskins and CMS are first choice in the long run, unless we sign someone else and that shows you what the manager thinks as well......we will see.

Sorry but Ashley Barnes is very under rated by alot of our fans, he does miss a few decent chances but he's only young and he'll learn, 20 goals in his first full season as a regular in his career is very very good, I wouldn't be surprised if he bagged 10-15 goals this season, I've heard so many people slag him off though it's pathetic.

I don't understand why but we seem to have convinced ourselves that for some reason Barnes' achievements and performances need to be scrutinised and queried in a way that no other player's do. If he scores it's because he's already missed five sitters or because CMS is so good that any of us could have tapped it in.

Well, bollocks. Look again at his first goal last night - that is a player with skill, determination and confidence and if you can't see that you're a blind muppety moron of a person. Give Barnes the respect he deserves and get behind him.

I've seen some shite strikers playing for Albion over the years, enough to know what a good'un looks like.
