Because he works so hard, and he's scoring quite regularly for us, I'd say sign him up. He said in an interview that Mariner hasn't spoken to him since his move to us (apart from a text message) so I doubt the Plymouth boss rates him that highly. If Gus wants him I doubt we would have to fork out much.
However, I don't see him being a 20 goal a season striker, which is exactly what we need if we're going to mount a serious challenge for promotion next season.

I agree. He may develop into a 20 goal a season striker, but we can't take that gamble next season. I would like us to sign Barnes, keep Murray and also sign another top striker for this level.

It amazes me the short memories that people have.

OK...so that may be an element of his game that Murray can improve on, but his goal record speaks for itself. He's a great player, seems to be settling now (according to reports) and, as mentioned, has carried us through the last couple of seasons with regards to his tally.

You're right, his goal scoring record DOES speak for itself. It's quite good, but not great.

Murray scores some cracking goals but he's not a prolific goal-scorer. He's never looked like breaking the 20 goal mark. Part of the problem is that he misses too many games, but he misses too many chances too. Gillingham away was a classic case in point.

Fine, so he has been one of the more talented players in recent years - but that's not a good enough reason for keeping him. Is his overall contribution good enough to play in a promotion-winning team, is the question now. I think the answer is 'probably not', but I would love to be proved wrong.

I wouldn't define anyone in league one as a GREAT player, I think he is one of the best in league one when he wants to be. As I said, its a shame he has serious attitude/Discipline problems but if he didn't he would probably be playing at a higher level. I think we have seen so far as well that Poyet hates players who have attitude problems ect so I'm not sure Murray will be here next season.

But you said Murray was a GREAT player when he wants to be in your above post...
