Ashley Barnes, The Latest: Ashley Barnes Signs for Burnley *Confirmation*

Now he's gone here's what my sauces revealed to me;

Barnes was on 5k a week. Brighton offered a new contract with a pay rise of £500 (so would put him on 5.5k). Barnes was expecting/hoping nearer 10k. Club and player couldn't come to any kind of arrangement at all, and Brighton did not want to lose him for nothing in the summer, so said if a decent offer came in they'd let Barnes talk. Obviously Burnley have offered a contract nearer the 10k mark!

Haven't seen it confirmed elsewhere but Burnley website now confirms he has signed. Good luck to him but I believe come the end of the window we will be in a better position with our squad than we were on Jan 1st.

EDIT : Took too long to type!!!!

I would like to make something clear: Barnes HAS BEEN our first choice striker this season. Obviously this was because of injuries, and I strongly feel he's only 3rd choice if all 4 strikers were fit. This season he has only got 6 in 24. For a team in seventh, creating many chances per game, I think this is a poor return. I am a fan of Barnes, and I've liked the way he has improved, but he's only average at this level. If we can now bring someone else in (like Conway) and keep the rest of our squad I think this is fantastic business. Especially because he's out of contract soon, and we've got a good price!

Must admit I have been worried with the possible sales of Bridcutt and Barnes .
Much reassured now Ince has signed an extension.
Now we have not only the money from the sale of Barnes with half a season left on his contract
But also money from the bridcutt sale with an exciting prospect to take his place.
Hopefully we can use this money to strengthen our attacking options.
We have just been a bit to goal shy in the last 2 and a half seasons for a side that can win promotion.

Indeed. We can use the money from Bridcutt and Barnes to sign an attacking midfielder(Conway?) and a striker.

good deal for the club. Time to move on. for me was a 50/50 player, the most frustrating player we have ever had.

Negatives outwayed the positives for me.

Positives, well only 2, work rate and occasional goal, missed a lot more than he scored
Negatives, missed a hell of a lot of chances, went down like a baby most of the time and his constant moaning to the ref grated me.

saying that, he was a good squad player, when CMS is fit, he will start along side Ulloa and for that reason alone, its a good deal for him and the club.

Good luck Ash.

Thanks very much Ashley, I'm gutted to see you go but wish you the best of luck for the future. You've been a fantastic servant to the club and I'm very sorry for the abuse you've received from the minority of the fans. I will never forget your part in one of the best games I've ever seen (BHA vs Arsenal)

£750k + addons.

Thanks, that's reasonable, without being nasty or getting in to the same old arguments, he is what he is and that's reasonable.

Good luck, Ashley - always loved your spirit and readiness to play where and how required and enjoyed seeing you make massive progress as a player.

Think the abuse has been disgusting. We all have Barnes haters around us don't we, now he has gone hopefully they will shut the F up.
No wonder he buggered off really. He has now got more money in his pocket and no abuse, who can blame him. If he is clever and looks after his money when he retires he shouldn't have to work.

Sad to see him go, especially for that price. But I don't blame him for not wanting to be a defender/winger his whole career

Gutted to see him go partly due to what he provides to the team but also because he was one of the few real characters in the squad.

But £750K for a player who must have been likely to go for nothing in summer is sound business for the club.

Barnes seemed to love living in the area and was settled but in football terms I don't think he relished playing on his own up front and certainly not out wide. The chance to play in a front-two (and the extra cash of course) must have swung it.

Now just wait for when it sticks it right up the boo boys on his return to the Amex.

Ashley Barnes, most underated player of this era.

Hope he does well for them. hopefully his replacement if we get one in, starts well.
