To have scored 12 goals so far this season for the lowest scoring team in the Division marks him out as very high Championship standard. Agree its impossible to say how good he will get and I think the age thing is a red herring as well but give him some obvious credit, he is way above Div 1 standard.

Not sure in the logic there bearing in mind it is the duty of our attacking players to score more goals. If they had we wouldn't be a low scoring team and he and CMS would have just broken into double figures at this stage of the season!!!

Barnes is a specialist who works hard in other areas.

Somehow he has time to keep scoring goals!

For me, he is a brilliant player and professional. I wouldn't grovel to counter the critics though, rather just say "keep up the great work" and ignore the turds who want to moan and groan. We have ALWAYS had them though, and they target exactly the most ernest honest Albion players, like local lad Tony 'Tiger' Towner who endured YEARS of boring wankers giving him stick, yet he was an excellent player for us.

If he beats his chest like Tarzan after scoring a goal, I'll say he has earned the right- in spades.

The low scoring has reflected the service they where getting earlier in the season. It has improved and so has their strike rate. If I picked the team Barnes would be an automatic choice. Thankfully I dont have to as Gus agrees with me.:)

Too many players ahead of him in my opinion.

1. Greer
2. Bridcutt
3. Dunk

Fair play to him his improved and continues to improve, but he would be one of the first players I would replace if looking to improve the squad. I still think Brezovan, Navarro & Barnes are where we need to improve to be bona-fide Championship title contenders or Premiership survivors. That's no criticism of the three mentioned, just you have to be cut-throat when improving a squad to ensure your challenging for honours. At times this season all three have performed well but thats where I see our most obvious areas for improvement.

Greer has been incredible this season! He goes unnoticed a lot of the time. Only thing he's done wrong this season was getting a red against saints.

FFS! Some of these comments are f***ing unbelievable! HE IS OUR TOP SCORER! WE ARE 5th! He ( and the rest of the team) is clearly doing something right! That said, I don't think he should get player of the season, but that is because there have been some truly outstanding performances, not because he is bad. The lad is only 22 and has a huge deal of potential. I really don't understand where this criticism comes from...there seems to be outrage simply because he has not scored 50 goals and won the ballon d'or...leave him be!

Tell you why I like Barnes. He's got edge. A bit of of spine and I loved the way he put his hands behind his ears to hear the applause when he scored. Bit confrontational. Nothing tippy tappy about his attitude!

Gordon Greer - "not good enough" for a team top of league 2, but should win our player of the season in the CHAMPIONSHIP.

I tapped to talk.

Has to be Bridcutt for me. From the start of the season he has been immense. Only had a couple of off games which cme during our bad spell.

In order

Bridcutt
Greer
Abd
Buckley
Macca
Predominantly because of recent performances Barnes

If Barnes carries on as recently he will continue up the list but FOR ME , Bridcutt will get the vote.

Having said that, if AEA had played all season, I think he would win hands down.

NOT player of the season BUT puts in a shift EVERY game as GUS wants him to do. If people cant see that then I'm at a loss as to what they're watching!!!

Interestingly, I think Gus may say he's our player of the season... Speculation obviously but I think on here we misjudge just how highly Gus rates Barnes.
