There were 9 players starting at Blackpool yesterday who had a poor game, Barnes was one of them.

We are not a bad team, we are a team playing badly.

Having seen us against the top three teams in the division this season, we are not as good as them, as our players are not as talented.

Yep, you do have to feel slighly sorry for Golden Boy, he does his best, it's not his fault he's not good enough, he's at the age now where he's not going to get any better either, Gus has to take some of the blame for continually playing him when it's clear to all but a blinkered handful of the 26k+ crowd every match that he probably shouldn't even be in the 18 let alone the starting 11.

Stubbornness isn't one of Gus' better traits....

Canto and aspinall in agreement that Barnes was the best player in the team.

I am actually amazed at this - I have never been a barnes knocker - but I thought he looked shot yesterday clearly low in confidence after the penalty miss and rebound debacle and the miss in the first minute of the second half. I cannot see how anyone watching could come to the conclusion he was the best player on the pitch. Orlandi was my MOTM by a country mile. Trying to put aside the enormous disappoint of the late equaliser that was the best I have ever seen a Brighton side play. Unfortunately Barnes had his worst game for a long time. I hope Dobbie starts on Tuesday.

Agree with everything apart from the "country mile" mom choice. Bridcutt was outstanding yesterday but so was orlandi - close call IMO

What age do you stop getting better?

Ashley Barnes was not brought to this club to score the goals to take us to the Premiership. He was brought in to help us get out of League One, so was successful. He then proved that he was competent at Championship level. I say he's over-achieved but it is unfair to criticise him because he's not the Moses that's going to lead us to The Prmised Land.

Gus should have been starting Dobbie for the last few matches. If he's not careful Ash's confidence will be ruined and he won't be effective even off the bench.

This is an old thread bumped from a while ago, mate. The Barnes being best player in the team thing was a reference to a game in October.

Sorry to keep posting this but Barnes' place on the pitch is defined by other people to a degree. If Bridge plays, Barnes will likely be replaced by Dobbie (its only circumstance that prevented that so far); if Painter plays Barnes will play because otherwise the left side will be more vulnerable.

I like and rate Barnes but he is out of form at the moment and as such could do with a break. The problem is that Painter and Dobbie is not a safe option and nomatter how poor Barnes' finishing is, he always contributes defensively every game.

Barnes will be top scorer this season. Make of that what you will.

Said at the beginning of the season he won't be and as he'll not likely to ever take a pen again this season then can't see him getting past his present total.

Sorry, I didn't realise Barnes was late 20's (which is the peak age for outfield players) as according to all other sources he is 23 but I bow to your superior knowledge. The sad thing about Gus not dropping is it gives some of our so called fans more chance to slate him because he is having a bad patch.

Wouldn't put Barnes as MOTM yesterday, not a knocker of his either but would like to see him dropped to the bench for a game or two, at least at home, and have either Lopez or LuaLua out wide instead, with BUckley on the other wing and have a right proper go at a team from the off.

I agree that we were fantastic yesterday and made Bolton (who are unbeaten under Freedman) look ordinary for 90 minutes plus the amount of injury time signalled (we won't mention the imaginary extra injury time that the referee found from nowhere).

Orlandi was amazing and definitely should have been MOM. Some of the link up play between him, Buckley and Bruno in the first part of the second half was amazing. The sad thing is most of the threads/posts on here are slating Barnes/Poyet/Greer etc and not saying how well we played, which shows the main problem with this forum and some of the more vocal posters on it.

Thought Barnes was very poor yesterday, but some of the comments about him on here are childish and just show the lack of knowledge of some posters on here about football in general.

Dobbie is not the answer, as he is an attacking midfield player rather than a striker although I too would probably start him Tues, as Barnes needs to be taken out of the firing line for a while. A blind man can see that we need more options up front and I would hope that our failure to bring someone in before the loan deadline is because we have someone already lined up to come in, in January.
