Failure to bat on flat pitches is disappointing. Can we put the excuse down as Covid / preparation? Happens almost every Ashes down under. Has been happening in the CC for years too.
The team have certainly failed to deliver. This collective of players is so close to a golden era. Root, Anderson, Broad and Stokes are exceptional cricketers who will go down as all time greats for England. As you say Robinson, Wood & Woakes are very good players too. Wasted potential. A team which can field players of that quality needs to do a lot better, even with the ageing Anderson and Broad. The simple fact is England just aren’t very good at test cricket, and haven’t been for years. Root, Anderson, Broad and the occasional Stokes miracle have papered over a lot of cracks. There’s some nascent talent in there (Robinson, Hameed) and Wood and Woakes are OK in the right conditions. But there’s a lot of dross. Plus the coach is shite.
You can drop Burns, Pope and Buttler for the rest of the series.
The replacements are no better, but at least I wouldn't have to suffer watching Burns play with a crooked bat across the line every ball His technique is simply woeful
It will be a long time until England get another day this good for batting in Australia. Of the batsmen dismissed today, Woakes was got out by a good ball, Stokes perished trying to whack it which is fair enough, Broad did his thing. The rest? Questions.

I can't QUITE put my finger on the problem here.

1100 runs, that's 1100 folks!

Starting to think England’s man of the series is going to end up being that bloke in the restaurant who gave Pat Cummins Covid
Followed closely by Mark Wood's beamer to Travis Head. If it had been Warner it would have swung it to Wood.
On a brighter note yesterday Sky Bet allowed me to cash out my full £300 stake on an England Series win at 10-1. Computer error on their side but I gleefully took it back.
Convicts didn't enforce the follow on, I would guess they blast a quick 200, declare and then book their Tee Times?
If Stokes and Woakes do PBs we’ll be about 30 runs ahead.
