[Albion] Article - Brighton’s Problems – Coaching or Poor Squad?

Ive no issue at all with the coaching in open play, we are decent in attack and defense (bar the obvious chance conversion) issue. This is why i am generally positive. Improvement will come.

Counter attacks are a bit of an issue both in attack and defense. Due to the tactics, we are acceptably vulnerable to the counter but are improving but in attack we havent maximised transitions so work to do to optimise there.

The biggest issue i have is Set Pieces.
If we could at least sort out corners and free kicks and stop dicking about frustration would be less IMO.

A: Depends on the game itself. If you mean the Burnely game and not a hypothetical game then I think we could have won but played really well so can't be that upset.

A: Second half against WBA was poor. But name any team who does not have a poor half!? We looked back to form after that so I am not worried about it.

EP's asked my main question. I've bolded what is ticking me off though. We are in danger of beng too good to go down. But you clap the passing if you want. I'll cheer the goals. Also:

Why do we keep taking short corners and backwards free kicks when they are not working?
Why have we only won 4 games in 25, looking totally unable to get three points at home?
Why do these defenders who are supposed to be protecting Ryan at corners look like they are socially distancing from him?
Why can't we finish simple chances?

We are not good at any free kicks or corners however we play them. Hopefully with the international break big strides will be made to improve on this

Definitely United, Palace and Burnley, maybe even Spurs.
Not Spurs. They got a bit lucky with the penalty, but they also hit the post twice. We scored pretty much our only chance (which is unlike us [emoji23]).

Re set pieces, there must be some metric that the analytics team have spotted which is stopping us from crossing first time at corners.

Its clearly a tactic to play short, so maybe they've spotted we concede on the counter too often on our own corners when we chuck it in the mixer first time?

Yes we are producing very little at corners, but at least we aren't getting caught with our pants down either.

I believe we've only conceded one goal on the counter this season.

I agree on the corners but it doesn't feel like a structured approach. We have had 43 corners this season, which is 4th in the league.
I read somewhere that there is a 1 in 29 chance of a goal resulting from a corner (3.5%)
Maybe you're right but until we do something useful with one of these set pieces, it FEELS stupid and frustrating

Never. Brighton will never win another game of football.

Maybe not under this manager, no!

The manager is to blame, not the players. He chooses the formation, he chooses the team. He is not getting the most out of the squad and it's his responsibility to do so.

A few below average performances from Dunk: lets waste no time in jumping to the conclusion that the 300 games+, own product team captain last seen getting a red card for a headless and desperate attempt to win the game for his club suddenly lost the motivation and desire to do his "day job" in the best possible manner.

I generally agree with a lot of your football opinions but I think you should scratch that beautiful bald head of yours and rethink this a bit.

Regarding Dunk he is obviously missing his one time partner, great shame the pair were broken up

Yeah I know that is your opinion. It was also your opinion about CH and most likely it will be your opinion on the next manager. Typical couch manager.

Still remember the 1/10 rating you gave Potter against Arsenal. Speaks volumes. Not expecting everyone to love GP or his management style, but 1/10 after beating Arsenal... even if you dont agree that it is dumb as hell, surely you'll agree it sounds dumb as hell.

I think the Celtic fans agree.

No, the OP thinks that when you play really well and don't win once or twice you are very, very unlucky and have not had the rub of the green refereeing wise. When you do that 21 times out of 25 you have a problem.

It‘a a good news day so I shall give you this.

Leicester City won 4 games in 25 from the beginning of the 14/15 season. They then went on to win 30 out of their next 51 games and make Premier League history.

With luck, we’ll win a few on the trot and regain that winning mentality, I think we lost it at home to Manure with the record woodwork hits, dodgy VAR overturned penalty and the 2mins of Fergie time. I can see us thumping Villa.

It is indeed a happy day.

And, yeah, that's all I'm after at the moment. The little tweaks that turn 4 wins in 25 into more wins in fewer games. I'm not asking for Leicester City Premier League history levels of turnaround either. If that happens I'll happily print out that article and this thread, roll it up, buy a plane ticket to Sweden and smoke it with Swansman whilst consuming my bodyweight in cheap pizza and mindbending vodka.

Sounds absolutely fantastic. Invite the founder of the 4 in 25 movement (figgis) as well.

I'll think about if there is some equivalent I can do if Brighton doesnt win a home game this season.

We have to win the league though

I wouldn't take figgis seriously, he's a bored bloke in his 20s pretending to be an old timer for some unfathomable reason.
