Hi folks.

My first post on NSC. I do some writing for the football website 'State of the Game' and have just contributed an article about Brighton and Mr Poyet which I thought you might like to take a look at. The link to the article is found at Patience is the Byword for Gus Poyet and Brighton and Hove Albion State Of The Game .

Please take a look and let me know of your feedback, either on the comments section of the website or in direct response to this thread. I find all feedback I receive on articles useful, whether it's positive or negative, as it helps try and improve my writing for the next time and it is also useful to get an idea on whether I've got all of my facts right as well. I am intending to write another article for SOTG about the match against Palace and the background to their rivalry ahead of the game against them on 1 December.

It's Mackail-Smith, not MacKail-Smith

Thanks for pointing out the Dobbie point. I noticed that when I was reading the article back earlier and thought that he'd signed permanently. Pity I hadn't had that thought when I proof-read the article the first time.

It's well-written copy, but way too long. Needs cross-headings at the very least.

I'd say that there's way too much factual stuff/detail for the casual reader. Analysis is more interesting - to neutrals and Albion fans.

Interesting read......did note the comment added by someone at the bottom of the article though which wasnt so positive.....

"Interesting article. Not least because their highlight last season was a 3-0 win at home to ‘Dagenham and Redbridge’ …..plus Rickie Lambert.

The money spent on their new stadium, and invested in wages and player purchases, they stand head and shoulders above anyone else in the football league. No other club could/can afford to invest £100 million on a new stadium. They simply must finish top 6 this season for Poyet to have done a ‘good job.’ Anything has to be labelled as a failure.

They have become a very very ugly side to watch. On every single Championship fans site, the opposition will constantly say, “they dive, they cheat, they time waste, they hassle the referee…. Thank god I don’t watch them every week.”

With every week that passes, with Poyet in charge – the man who openly defended Suarez – Brighton are despised by more fans and teams alike in the football league. Success clearly comes at all costs"

Worthing
Someone seems to have stolen a word ("start") from this sentence:

MacKail-Smith’s absence to injury had an immediate negative impact on Brighton as the goals that had been scored in a flourish during Brighton’s flying to the season were to dry up in mid-September.

Second paragraph.

Got bored reading it now. Too long and a few schoolboy errors.

Back to back promotions were back to back championships.
Peter Taylor didn't have his head turned by a lucrative offer. He just quit.

No idea what happens after that in the article......

Was it a deliberate decision to imitate our patient, slow build up, pass-it-along-the-back-line (with little end product) style of playing football in the style of prose?

I like it, but I think the article needs some Vicentifying if you get my meaning,

A well written and thoughtful article Joe. I had to skip the bit about Vicente as I feel mildly emetic thinking about the tall stories regarding his injuries. Some among us know the real reasons. What the club cannot be upfront about his illness is beyond me. I would have thought getting it out into the open would have helped him deal with it.

I also enjoyed the troll who replied to your article, but i suppose children have to fill their break times with something.

I assume they are a bitter, lonely individual. That, or jealous. Probably a Palace fan.

Some among us know the real reasons.

Really? Do share.

They're almost certainly Southampton. No palace fan on a trolling mission would pass up an opportunity to mention the 3-1...but the bitterness over 'Dagenham & Redbridge + Rickie Lambert' is the smoking gun.
