I’m worried who will partner Stones as Maguire won’t be fit for the groups you’d think. None of those 3 fill me with confidence. We’re a class CB and striker short in this squad - maybe CM too.

Hang on - you just advocated for Lingard to come in and now you're saying we're a CB and CM short - White plays in both positions :wozza:

And is Lingard really going to start ahead of Foden, Mount, Grealish, Sterling, Sancho? Of course not.

Brighton factually.....
Godfrey was all over the place when he came on. I don’t think he’s even looked that great for Everton. Southgate will probably pick him to replace TAA as he plays for a “big” club.

I wish he’d scored an own goal, he does not fill you with confidence does he.

Where as Ben was on the line doing the business

No I’m saying we’re a top class CB and CM & striker short of being a very good squad

I think it’s too late on the CBS - I’d have taken Dunk as 2nd / 3rd choice.

Exactly.

Ben White covers all those positions and gives you more than the bottom 3.
He’ll probably go for Lingard if Arnold doesn’t make it, he obviously thinks that Mings and Coady are good enough (to partner Stones) plus he’s got stick for not picking Lingard so will want to cover his arse.

Ben couldn’t have done more tonight which is the really sad thing.

It's almost as if there's some kind of benefit to playing defenders who have spent the entire season defending.

Sheebo, I just wanted to say that I love and share your enthusiasm re: England. NSC generally seems cynical about the Three Lions, so it's nice to have somebody else who is excited about our chances this Euros - come on England!!! :rave:

Since Euro96 when I first felt the highs and lows of football and being well.. ENGLISH, and a die hard fan of my local Sussex team, it just comes naturally. Def going to own my own thread where people who want England to do well and won’t be blinkered by other weird things can post - yes I am owning a thread this summer - constructive criticism based on matches etc absolutely fine btw - I deserve the thread after decades of trying to talk about England on a football forum without turning into a prem top 6 glory supporting toy thrower like many on NSC

Don’t think he’ll take White if TAA is out. He’ll include another midfielder as he saint the 4 right sided players were there as the best footballers. Whites not ready for the Euros yet - take Lingard and add some more flair.

Not so sure on Lingard, we have enough flair in the squad, Sako looked good and proved his worth which was a bonus.
Thought we looked weak in defence and White's versatility could give him the nod either in a three a four or holding midfield which I feel is his best position.

Hopefully he’ll have three attacking players behind Kane with two DMs in a 1-3-2-4. Could look like this:

Grealish-Foden-Sancho

Or

Rashford-Mount-Sterling

Or pretty much any combination. No need for J-Lingz in my opinion.

Why would you not pick White, Webster, Dunk, Tawoski (sic) and Mee?!
Makes no sense. Players in 'better' teams simply never have to defend.

I think it should be titled "Sheebo's England at the Euros Thread."

May I guest moderate?

Hardly any of them have played in 'major' international tournaments. How can Phillips be ready but White not?

Fair point - answer for me is he’s not (Phillips) and certainly won’t be a starter. I’m talking the here and now with 26 players already picked - I’d have taken White in the 26 originally maybe, but 25 / 26 will be chosen & Lingard would do more with his experience in the squad for me.

Yes maybe. I’m not he’ll bent against it, I just think with GS comments about the young lads were here for experience etc like any England squad, it won’t happen. We do have a huge amount of attacking options that’s true.

BTW.
Given the Champions League Final, the season we've just had, and a huge injury list. Did we really need to play this game tonight?
