Not unexpected. We're running on fumes, left everything out there on Thursday and Arsenal had two more days to rest and prepare.

Hope the team can find the resolve for one more push against Palace before they get a week off ahead of the Spuds game.

Lighter schedule come January and fingers crossed for players returning from injury and maybe one or two additions.

We can’t buy a world class midfielder for £70m aged 28 because we can’t afford their wages and keeping a long term expensive asset who may very well flop.
there’s a difference between a £70M player and someone like Dahoud on a free though surely. Given £22M profit last set of accounts, much larger profit expected next time round + the prize money from Europa league we can probably do a bit better than we are.

We managed to sign a £30M Joao Pedro and wasn’t that long ago people thought that was unattainable for a club like usb

Newmarket.
Cripes, we have so many people on NSC that can't stand other people having an opinion and just haaaaave to tell them they're wrong.
Peace and goodwill to all men, and women of course.

I don’t really think anyone really expected us to get a result after Thursday . It could have been 6-0 today. Four from Bart not confident about playing out from the back and the two they scored.

Happy enough with that. Welbeck looked sharp. Gutted about Veltman. Beaten by a much better side today, no issues. Referee had a good game.

Free hit, got through it with only one more injury(!).
I can't say I'm happy with a loss but beaten by a side who had 2 extras days to recover from midweek.
A free hit maybe, but Roberto won't be happy with that performance. But for Bart Dunk and Jpvh we would've got annihilated.
I don't think RDZ will be happy with our 1st half display but we played much better the last 15 mins 2nd half
I thought Arsenal were comfortably the best side we've played this season, on and off the ball.

The first goal was very disappointing though. We gave away a needless corner and then a soft goal from the corner. Other than that we just lost to the better side, there's not too much else to say.
Arsenal looked very good but needless and sloppy passing causing our own downfall. Tired minds and bodies I think. Upwards and onwards and i feel the rest we need and deserve will help our squad going forward after our Euro exploits.

Again, never “happy” losing, but rather happy with the general outcome having never expected a result from this particular match. Arsenal are an extremely good team presently, and perhaps under different circumstances (having not strained every sinue Thursday night in a far more important game) - we might’ve put up more than a fight.

But realistically they’re miles ahead of us. I am never happy losing, but I am happy in the reality that a loss felt inevitable given our issues (Europe, injuries) and their ability.

Better teams will be beaten much worse by this Arsenal side.

Away to potential champions - I’ll take that. Agree that some of our old timers are no longer the cozy blanket we need when things get tough. Onwards and upwards.

Shouldn't be all Doom and Gloom, lost away with a depleted Squad to a Title contender after a difficult night in Marseille.

Arsenal we're so much stronger then they we're last year, Rice has helped them massively.

MacA and/or Caicedo always outclassed Rice. You can see where one of our main weaknesses is now compared to the last 2 seasons.

On a serious note about our prospects, much like I said before a couple of games lately (after our win at Forest and European exploits) - I think a big part isn’t just the physical tiredness but mental energy we are putting in.

Thursday was a superhuman effort not just in terms of performance and physical workrate, but mental focus and keeping going to grab that excellent late winner.

RDZ said before the game he wanted fans to stay until the end - he knew it would very likely be settled late and we needed every advantage to give us that extra 1% and turn a draw into a win.

I think with Thursday in mind, and with a combination of the amount of minutes we’re playing, the injury list and the aforementioned mental jadedness we might be taken apart today.

I’ve gone for 3-0 Arsenal - but even if we are outplayed and lose comfortably (to an excellent team) I am ready to shrug and move on.

This is the ultimate free hit as far as I’m concerned. No injuries or suspensions and anything else to me is a bonus.

Appreciate this view will not be everyone’s cup of tea, but Arsenal are an excellent side and we might really struggle today.
Sorry to quote myself, I just posted this early in the thread because I knew there would be bed wetting when we were outplayed and comprehensively beaten.

We actually did much better than I thought today - a big downer being Veltman’s injury, which was absolutely not needed.

Beaten by a better side. Physically they were a much more athletic and polished team. All players fully developed and in there prime. 8 Brighton players in the pitch today 23 of younger.

Very much THIS.

And when we try and balance it out by bringing in a bit of experience then they are all 'past it'.

How the f*** do you think we are competing at this end of the league and in the Europa knock out stages with a budget more akin to keeping out of the relegation places.

Kids, old men and BIG BALLS
