Again, despite your endeavours to pretend you are fighting the greater fight, you retreat back to your own personal circumstances which will mirror those of a tiny handful of Albion fans. def from the North!!! I tend to park in Wivelsfield and catch the train in, but it means i have to leave at 12 (SE London) to ensure i am on the 1.30pm train (this does not make my OH happy)

The situation here (and Beachy what I'm about to say you may read as an ad hominem attack on you but it isn't really) is that I know from reading his posts in the past that Beach Hut is a Conservative. And he's not a 'one nation' Tory, he's from the of "I'm alright Jack, Devil take the hindmost, there is no such thing as society" Thatcherite school of Conservative thought. Consequently the idea of having to pay extra for a service that he doesn't need is a complete anathema to him. The argument that everybody pays as a contribution to the club to try and help it fulfill its 'sustainable transport' objective he instinctively rejects as little more than a socialist Tax and Spend initiative, whereas someone like Lord Bracknell can see the merit in the policy.

Further argument is pointless, a leopard can't change its spots. There will be others who share his view as well.

My mother-in-laws current gentleman friend is a retired train driver and senior RMT member at his local branch so he says (Bescot I think) he gets free train travel anywhere and everywhere.

It's some perk!

So, in summary, Scrooge McScrooge doesn't want to pay for travel as he's got a tasty near-freebie stuffed in his back pocket, and he's not afraid to use it.

Nearly everyone else seems to accept that, regardless of personal circumstances, a mandatory travel voucher supplement is the common sense approach to ticketing from next season onwards.

Can we get back to Coldean parking now?

You missed out that Scrooge McScrooge wants to take the club to court if they do bring in a travel supplement. I'm still interested on what grounds this case would get to court but apparently I'm not allowed to know !

He might also tell you that it's a perk that survives because of the strength of the trade union that negotiated the deal on his behalf.

It's gone for some time because this is really four threads in one

1) The parking issue in Coldean
2) The Albion losing out on travel vouchers
3) What travel proposals will help planning application for more seats
4) Beach Hut vs The Rest

The trouble is, solving one issue doesn't necessarily solve another. Banning parking in Coldean (and Moulsecoomb) will not only make local residents unhappy but will mean that another 1000 to 2000 people will be using P&R or public transport, meaning more pressure on other services. Mandatory travel vouchers will help solve issue 2 but will also be seen as discouraging sustainable transport, which will not help issue 3 (although ROSM did have a solution to this). Makes you realise how tricky this transport planning is.

As for issue 4, BH's on his own on that one ... my heart bleeds for him.

Not yet I am still here, futile as miles apart with some on this however as proved with the way the away allocation changed after the West Ham debacle, the forced relocation of the family stand to name two other incidents there are probably quite a lot who do actually agree and when the time comes common sense will prevail.
