Argus: Hammond wants to play in Championship

I'm well aware of anything Dick says which may or may not be the truth, and what the agent may say and to the extent they may tell the truth.

Of course, that article was written with Naylor being very much hand-fed the story by this Tim Webb. I've just re-read it, and realised that one of the first statements has so little value, I wonder why it was put in. The one that says... But the skipper's agent, Tim Webb, has assured fans the player has no desire to leave and that it will be the club's choice if the influential midfielder is sold during the January transfer window.. If Hammond doesn't want to leave, and the club doesn't want to sell him, where's he going to go, and why was it put in? He is, after all, still contracted to us.

The point is, it appears that Tim Webb has effectively told Hammond not to sign. If Hammond REALLY doesn't want to leave, why doesn't he sign? Is this the man who really wants to lead the team out at Falmer? The answer is, there is far more to it than that. It's about... money. We know that's what agents are there for, so why doesn't he come out with it and say 'this offer is shit, and I can take my boy elsewhere for better money'?

But I do go back to my earlier point. A very big part of this story is missing. I'm just not sure if I can put it on here. Unless someone else - who knows the same story - put it up, I don't know whether to say it. That's what's frustrating.

With your points regarding Bas. The cock-up is on Bas' side. He has refused a contract. We can argue all day whether the offer was a 'fair one' or not, that's for the club and the player to argue out but, where is Bas now? At the moment - f***ed.

As for 'if it wasn't for Knight', you can worry about whether we have O'Callaghan, I'll be more concerned with 'if it wasn't for Knight' we wouldn't have a club. O'Callaghan is a small consideration in comparison.

TLO please don't give us little tasters of other information about this story and then tell us you can't tell us!!

That's the thing - having watched him every week for three years, I don't think he's good enough for the championship. I have seen him play this season and wondered what he's even doing in league one! Plus, there is the captaincy, which he is just not the man for.

What I'm saying though is that the FACTS speak in his favour. Does he score goals from midfield? YES. Does he captain a side that is in the top half of league one? YES. Has he been a first team regular for several seasons? YES. Is he young enough to improve? YES. Is he highly rated by his current manager? YES. All of that means he could get a championship club easily, even if some of us who watch him enough know he's got weaknesses. It also explains why he wants a decent wage and the chance to progress up the leagues, and we're wondering whether he's worth it/we can afford it.

I also think the "he wants to see if Brighton can get promoted" sentence is just to keep the fans off his back for the rest of the season. No agent is going to come out now and say their player is unhappy with what he's been offered and will look elsewhere in the summer - Hammond would get booed every week at Withdean! So, the promotion ultimatum is an olive branch for now, and when, horror of horrors, we don't go up he has his chance to leave.

Does he score goals from midfield NO, he scores most of them from the penalty spot!

Yes, COLCHESTER! There going to be in League 1 next year anyway!

They want Hammond to help keep them up - they've got a game in hand and are only 5 points adrift. Hardly already relegated.

Anyway, by all accounts other, better, WELL-POSITIONED Championship clubs are after him. So regardless of whether us fans think he's good enough, Championship clubs do.

I reckon it's perfectly feesible for a mediocre championship club to come in for Hammond. I believe he's quite capable at that level. He's certainly influential for us, and I reckon a lot of fans would be sorry to see him go.

Just don't know how he got the captains armband though.

I think that it is a perfectly justifiable statement put out by the agent, presumably with Hammond's consent.

Why should he want to sign for Colchester and come back down to Div 1?

Why would DK turn down a bid from Colchester, simple not enough money, which suggests that the fee offered was minimal. Had it been £100k plus as many think DK would have snapped their hands off.

Perhaps what GOC said was right perhaps this agent is trying to use this to persade DK to buy more players to mount a realistic challenge for promotion. He is also the agent for Revell so DK would not want to piss him off too much.

I would say let the dust settle, hang on to Hammond and sort it out later in the season. Nothing to do with planning for next season or anything else just a question of Hammond wanting more money, DK not prepared or unable to pay it.

Sorry. I'm going to seek advice in the morning about it.

If I don't put it up tomorrow, assume it was mere tittle-tattle and that the info was suspect.

Cheers!

Now I know you're talking shit. By what accounts are these? If Championships clubs think he's good enough, he wouldn't be here. If better clubs are after him (please dont kid yourself they are), then why string us along, why not just say I'm joining X at the end of the season.

Why not? Because they are not. Let us know by what accounts other clubs are after him, or stop talking shit

Your right, on paper he loads like a great player, and has everything going for him. But really hes useless most of the time, it would be a shambles if he got a Championship club. Bas Savage syndrome again
