Then spoil your paper to say so. Silence changes nothing.
Quite. I always vote because folk died for that right.

The PCC election is a waste of money and I always say so on the ballot paper and spoil it. Last time I voted for Jackie Weaver and next I knew...

I haven't thought about who is my preferred candidate just yet. But you may hear about it.

Council and West Yorkshire Mayoral here. Going Green on this one as they are fighting for some local issues (excessive housing developments and planned reopening of a quarry), although it'll be Red for the GE whenever that is. Although she'll win, I find the Labour W Yorks Mayor Tracy Brabin rather irritating, so Green on that one too.

Only Police and Crime Commissioner election where we are... voted last week.
I binned mine. Think it’s ridiculous and total waste of money.

Only PCC here as well. Not one of them bothered to canvas for my vote so I can't be bothered to vote for any of them.

Only found out who the candidates were a couple of days ago because they were on the BBC website.

I’ve voted in every possible election since I was 18. But not PCC. I’m simply not qualified to judge the candidates and I don’t think it’s right to choose them based on party loyalties.
I understand that which is why I want to spoil my vote by saying it is a waste of money appointment. A protest vote is still a vote.

While looking through the candidates earlier this morning, I read a story that at the last election the incumbent PCC was elected after a DRAMA at the count when halfway through counting the second preferences they realised they'd miscounted the first.

So, I was somewhat surprised to be invited to put my X next to my preferred candidate when I arrived at the polling station for both the Tees Valley Mayor and the PCC. (I later remembered the story about this being changed for the London mayor election, I assume the change happened in all these votes at the same time).

I've moaned at length on here about how FPTP disregards well over half the votes cast and is a crock of shite, but at least in a General Election there's some sort of wider context that let's you tell yourself your vote counts for something. What's the point in not allowing a second preference for a single post election like a mayor? It just makes voting for anybody other than the top two candidates an obvious waste of time.:angry::rant::rant::angry::angry:

I was surprised that Sunak didn't call a GE for today to get all the pain and humiliation out of the way in one go.

As it is, today is just a precursor of the embarrasment that his premiership faces at the polls, and that's the main reason I'll be voting.

Queen's Park and Kemptown residents shouldn't forget we have a by-election here today too.

Police & Crime Commissioner only here, and I refuse to vote in these elections as I believe they're a waste of time and money and politicise the police force, so won't be voting on principle.

I obviously would vote in any other form of election, but not these. The whole system should be scrapped.
Then go and write that on your Ballot paper.

BTW I agree with your sentiments 100%

Just PCC where I am and that wasn't worth getting a proxy vote sorted for.

I did vote the first time PCC came up, the list was the three political party reps plus four independents. None of them sent anything to say who they were or what they did, there was nothing in the polling station, so you're just voting on the name. So I chose one of the independents with a nice name and voted for them, because I'm damned if I'm going to vote for a political party rep of any hue to be the PCC. But of course the Tory won.

Totally daft, but at least we haven't gone as far as the states where they vote for everything from judges to attorney generals to heads of the the fire service to the railroad commissioner.

Only PPC here, but we’ve just been down to vote. At 11:30am, we were numbers 10 and 11 for the day. I think they were quite pleased to see us!

PCC and councillor for me.

I shall head down soon and cast my votes.

If I’m approached by Tory candidates, as I usually am on my way in (can they do that?) I shall say something salty before heading in.

Then it’s back to ditch digging for the afternoon.
